    As of Today:
    1 z-LAL 59-16
    2 x-DEN 50-26
    3 x-SAS 48-26
    4 HOU 48-27
    5 NOR 47-27
    6 POR 47-27
    7 UTH 46-29
    8 DAL 45-30

What it Could be (with some optimism):
    1) Lakers
    2) Denver or Rockets
    3) Rockets or Denver
    4) Spurs or Utah
    5) Blazers or Utah or Hornets or Spurs
    6) Hornets or Blazers or Dallas
    7) UTAH or Dallas
    8) Dallas or Utah

For Us (OPTIMAL): We could win a first round series against Dallas, Blazers, Hornets. In the second round, we would play the Nuggets while the Lakers and Spurs or Utah face off. We would rather it be the Spurs but they could take out the Lakers with a healthy Manu and integrated Gooden. That would have us vs. Spurs in the WCF. We matchup pretty well with them. We matchup decently with the Lakers too as long as Ron shuts up and plays ball. So then we would face anyone except Celtics and beat them in the Finals! Lebron: Batt/Art guarding him on D, Yao in the paint (his worst nightmare).

How much are the chances that the stars align in such a formation? We will see as the season winds down.

Making it to the finals and facing the Cavs would be a dream come true. We destroy them but the refs might pull another 2006 with LeBron.

the only teams we would really have to be perfect against are the jazz and the celtics, but i think we can even beat them

We would need a golden path to the Finals.

That entails us and Enver with the #2 and #3 seeds, preferably with us #2. We need to draw the Hornets or Mavs in the first round. Then we get hopefully get the Nuggets in the second round. Even without home court in that round, I can see us beating Enver to get to the WCF.

Getting further will require a lot of luck. Spurs need to wind up #4 or #5 and take out the Lakers in Round 2. IMO, the Spurs are the only Western Conference team that can beat the Lakers. I think we match up well with SA, and we could beat them. Having home court would help, but I would still put money on the Spurs to win that series. But we certainly have a shot in a series that would go 6 or 7 games. If we get the Lakers, our run ends there.

If we get to the Finals, we would have a good shot. Shane and Ron could do another bangup job on LeBron if we drew the Cavs. The Celtics are beatable, particularly if KG isn't 100%. I also like our chances against the Magic.

It's definitely possible, but that's a lot of things that have to fall just right for us.

i think there is a glimmer of hope but only if this falls into place:

    lakers v utah
    rockets v dallas
    denver v hornets
    spurs v portland

    utah v spurs
    rockets v denver

    rockets v spurs

So far my dream for this team this year was to make it to the Western Conference Finals and that looks like a possibility. So for this year I think we have succeeded with all the drama/injuries/trade that has happened.

Now to actually beat the Lakers and then win it all in the Finals? Pipe Dream.

Judging by the schedules, it's quite possible for Utah to fall to 8th. This eliminates them or the Lakers immediately from the picture.

However, we have to overtake the Spurs in order to slip into the 2 or 3 slot. That, or slip ourselves to 6/7. Otherwise, we'd be taking on the Lakers or Jazz (unlikely) in the second round. I can't see the Rockets hopping into first in the southwest, nor can I see them slipping to 6th or 7th... soooo... I don't expect the stars to align!

Then again, San Antonio has looked pretty bad lately. Anything's possible!

As fans i know that we get carried away sometimes in how we want our team to be, even in the most critical sense. I do say with a little luck (not that much), we could get to the promiseland. I think that just like us, getting out of the first rd. is the first thing on the Rockets minds also. If I were the Western Conference, I would dread to see a confident and hungry Rockets team this spring if we advance. As long as we play the defense that we are capable of nite in and nite out, (thanks JVG) anything is possible. That has to be our calling card. DEFENSE!

    Is it my day dreaming?

    1st round: Rox vs Portland
    2st round: Rox vs Denver
    WCF: Rox vs Spurs
    FINAL: Rox vs Celetics

    ROX could win all.

Y'know, I think that, too. I think most of the others are somewhat flawed, even the Lakers that we have actually matchup well against most, except those two team you mentioned.

The Jazz have two outside shooting big men and they flop alot...while bringing Yao and others out of the paint.

The Celtics just play outstanding team defense and have clutch shooters everywhere. We need a great defensive effort and the bench to play well to even have shot.

If we play Orlando or the Cavs in the Finals, I doubt that either series would go 5 games with us possibly sweeping one of them.

I think that is a best case scenario for us is to somehow finish ahead of Spurs and hope Denver remains in front us. Maybe, pushing SA to #4 to face the Lakers in 2nd Round.

Another thing that would work out for us (if we don't get 2nd or 3rd) is if Phoenix made the playoffs, and matched up with LA or San Antonio that would be tough series for both of those teams.

Being the 3rd seed facing the Blazers with the 6th would be ideal with the nuggets in second seed. We wouldnt have to face the Lakers till the Western Conference Finals...maybe theres a glimmer of hope the Spurs can knock out the Lakers but thats highly unlikely. As much as I want to be optimistic and not sound like a troll...I don't think we can win a 7 game series against the Lakers especially since we will not have HCA. Having said that, I think WCF would be a huge step forward for this franchise with room to grow next year since Tmac's contract is an asset.

I think that there is a small chance we win it all. I don't think that it's very probable, but if we get Landry back and everyone plays well, I like our chances with anyone.

Personally, I'm just pulling for a first round victory. Anything else would be gravy.

It does give me chills, though, thinking about how amazing it was watching the Rockets in the finals in 94-95...nothing better than NBA playoff basketball. Hopefully history repeats itself

We are gonna win the title this season only if we can defeat the lakers in the WCF. The cavs are not a problem to us IMHO. we have double great defenders at SF to match up with James who is the spine of the Cavs, without him the cavs are just 1956 pounds of meat. Mo will continue to suck even worse than he did as a buck if James gets locked up by ron&battier, not to mention their other 3 shooters like Wally and Delonte. yao is not a great center but he is still more than enough to take good care of Z.
