For the road they've walked? I think a vast majority of people are well aware of the trials faced by African-Americans, but why don't people seem to know about the trials faced by women throughout history?

Woman's fight for equality in this world has been long and painful, yet I don't get a sense that most people, especially women, know much about that fight.

I may be wrong and don't know much about the subject but aren't women in America presently the most empowered women in the history of mankind?

If not, at least in modern times?

I don't think that would be possible without awareness and recognition of their struggles.

Don't worry. Guys are getting dumber and dumber. As long as there are way more women go to college then men, eventually women will rule the world.

I believe women have it harder than blacks in todays society. There is still a difference in pay for men and women preforming the same tasks. And where I didn't doubt a black man's ability to become President, I seriously doubt a woman could have won last years election. I think Hillary would have not stood a chance in the general election, and I don't think any woman that makes a 2012 bid stands a chance either.

Patriarchy still permeates our society. Men have to buy into it for fear of being emasculated. Women have to buy into for fear of being margainalized.

By the way, Michelle now has a slightly higher approval rating than her husband.

It seems to be part of the topic at hand. You can still compare them.

even by the statistics you listed, you said blacks have it easier than women because of pay, then you compared men and woman salaries, what does that have to do with blacks/women

Its still there, but it certainly doesnt "permeate" society. Get involved in a divorce or custody battle as a man and you may think the pendulum has swung the other way.

I think it is obvious our society is more accepting of racial diversity than sexual diversity.

    15th amendment to 19th amendment.

    military service

The reason it seems no one cares or whatever is because of gender roles. Unlike race it is pretty acceptable to have gender roles and much harder to change them.

We like to attribute issues such as homosexuality and obesity to genetics but for some reason we ignore that men and women are completely different in all aspects.

Men and women are not equal. One is not better than the other. But all humans deserve the same respect.

I don't think you can use the fact that black men (1870) got the right to vote before women (1920) did as proof that our society is more accepting of racial diversity than of sexual diversity. How do you account for the fact that it took a lot longer than 50 years for blacks to actually be able to vote without being beaten or killed for trying? Not to mention all the laws that were put in place to disenfranchise blacks.
