That could be true. There's one player on the list who could be legitimately considered the best player on his team in a championship season that I'd rank behind Yao. That's Dave Cowens, and he happened to have a couple HOFers next to him in John Havlicek and Jo Jo White. But that's not a great comparison -- Cowens was more of an uber-Scola type.
Yeah, Yao isn't as good as Robinson, Robinson had a great all around game, I think he scored 70 in one game.. but I think they purposely gave him the ball all the time to get the scoring title. but it's still 70. http://www.nba.com/history/players/robinson_bio.html He also made history with his 71-point explosion against the Los Angeles Clippers on the last day of the season to win the NBA scoring title at 29.8 ppg edging Orlando Magic center Shaquille O’Neal (29.3 ppg). That romp made Robinson just the fourth player ever to score 70 points in an NBA game, joining Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor and David Thompson. He also finished that season as a the NBA MVP runner-up to Olajuwon.
I like all the people that don't even bother re-ranking the list of players - they all agree with the original list. I'd actually have to think about this, but there's no way I'd put Yao above an in-his-prime Elvin Hayes.
probably right. around there. he's not touching the elites. shaq yesterday basically battled him to a draw. well, basically shaq at 37 is holding his own v. every center in the L today if not owning them. the center position has really declined. there's NO WAY dwight howard should be mentioned as "dominant force" if he played during the 90s.
Ummm... Yao above Walton? I hope you're joking. I hope you're also joking about Smits being above Yao.
no ****...you dont expect a dude that eat lobster everyday to be weak at the age of 37? i;ve seen sh1tload of old people pawning youngster.....guess we are low class and always looking up to those upper class and listen to whatever they said....its sad....
I went ahead and added Dikembe Mutombo (ATL) and Brad Daugherty (CLE) to the list. They had just missed my cut because they didn't quite reach 58 wins in a season, but they were close enough. I think they belong in the conversation. And Dwight Howard's Orlando team will reach 60 wins easy this season, so I'll go ahead and add him to the list as well.
You should have stopped right there because I 100% agree with you. No disrespect but Yao shouldn't even be mention in the same category as the others mentioned. Yao hasn't accomplished anything really important to be mentioned in the same sentence as Wilt, Kareem, Dream, Duncan and others. Yao has a long way to go.
You don't think Yao should be mentioned in the same sentence as Rik Smits or Kevin Duckworth? It's not like I only listed HOFs. There's a pretty wide range of talent represented there. Surely, Yao falls somewhere in the middle.
Depends on the judging criteria: On Skill standpoint, Yao has to be around David Robinson area (not as skilled as Tim Duncan outside of Free Throws, but definitely above Patrick Ewing). On Accomplishment, Yao is no where on this list yet.
Ok if your saying that then I would put Yao ahead of Rik Smits because I couldn't stand him and I would put Yao ahead of Duckworth. Amare and Duncan are not really centers. They are just playing that position. I don't know if you made this list in order or you just picked it out of random but Yao would have to be in between Hayes and Zo. I really believe Zo had a great career but the kidney thing slowed him down. Zo was a great player on and off the court just like how Mutombo is.
Every single player on this list has achieved more in the playoffs than Yao Ming except for Dwight Howard who is still very young. That sums up Yao Ming's career so far.
I wouldn't go by skill or accomplishment. Imagine they're all in a pool, and you can pick any one of them to build your team around for 3 years. The goal is maximize wins/playoff success/championships in those 3 years. Who'd you take?
I said in the first post that I considered hybrid F/C players as well. Kevin McHale was an omission. I'll add him.
