Brian Cook could block my shot with his butt planted at the end of the Rockets bench, his free hand performing a one-hand clap to cheer on his teammates.
These guys can take on NBA players 2 vs 5: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/E4opov4mz84&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/E4opov4mz84&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/O5iTK64E5js&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/O5iTK64E5js&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/rgK4mUM7wck&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/rgK4mUM7wck&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/zGGBUg4JAQ8&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zGGBUg4JAQ8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
One of my friends was an all-district point guard at a 4A school in San Antonio and he got to play a pick up game with Gervin and some other spurs back in the day. He told me he couldn't get the ball past half court without getting his pocket picked. What made it worse was that the guys weren't even playing seriously.
I like to think that in a game to 11 against Big Baby I could score like 3 or 4 times and maybe get 2 stops. He's the only NBA forward I can think of that Im taller than and have similar hops to. Pretty sure any other player scores on me every time and rips/blocks me every time I get the ball.
The NBA players that you think you could score on because they don't play much defense in the pros would play much much better d on you. Try to remember that while their d looks bad in the pros, they are playing against players that are significantly more athletic and with significantly more skill and training than everyone on this board. A guy like Aaron Brooks may not be able to guard Deron Williams or Chris Paul, but no one on this board is going to pose that sort of threat.
the only ones any of us would have a chance against are slow tall centers without much offensive game. For example, shawn bradley
None. Even if you played college basketball, you could not take a current NBA player. Have you not seen the posters in counselors offices across the country? I think the chances of winning the lottery are higher than making it to the NBA.
He'd kill us too. You wouldn't get much offense in on him and he'd lay the basket in over us all day long.
bradley could still just dunk, however someone like Deke barely can. As long as you could hit a couple Js you would have a shot
stops on big baby? Are you kidding? He'd back your butt in for a layup every time. If you're taller than him and can out-muscle him (and have decent hops and can score on him AT ALL), maybe you should be in the NBA or the D league.
I could take Yao, because I know the refs wouldn't call ****. Later that day... Rockets announce Yao sustained 3 broken ribs and a broken leg in a pick up game. (But seriously, the worst player would crush me and anyone I know without breaking a sweat.)
Barry and Finley would d you up hard if you had even a slight thought of "i can score on this guy". They can't "play much defense" against the most talented scorers in the world.. they can D up amateurs. I don't know how tall you are, but you're fantasizing if you think those taller guys don't have the reach to catch up and block your shots. Maybe you'd score a bucket or 2, but they'd kill you in any game
If you didn't at least play college ball, there isn't a current player in the league that anyone here could take. The only outside chance would be if you were tall, athletic and could shoot the three, you might be able to handle Ryan Bowen. But that's about it.
NBA Players are the best basketball players in the world. Less than .1% of all basketball players are good enough to be in the NBA. Even if you are in the top 50% of all basketball players, NBA players are still 500 times ahead of you.
Agree with the general sentiment in this thread. Regardless of how you dominate the local 24 Hr Fitness, the worst scrub in the League would destroy you. I have played with matt maloney recently and seen him destroy guys taller, far more athletic and much younger on a regular basis. This is a mid 30s Matt Maloney. Similarly, I see Moochie playing at the MET downtown pretty regularly and he dominates. By dominates I don't mean he scores the majority of points, by dominates I mean he pretty much does anything he wants out there and the talent level he is playing against is guys in their early 20s who have played some overseas ball, and a couple of good college players as well. Yet, not one of them would be able to come anywhere near beating him in a game of 1 on 1, and thats a fat over the hill Moochie. Any current scrub would kill any of us. And for the guys talking about beating centers and stiffs, how do you propose shooting over a guy who is 7ft tall, or stopping him from backing you down and laying it up all day? Makes no sense.
Dude... there's now way in hell you could take on Reddick 1-on-1... he would mercilessly destroy you. He was the best high school basketball player that I ever saw/played against. Ditto for Bowen, Norris, and Najera. It's not like these guys suck... These guys were really good starting Division 1 basketball players. Do you think you could start for a D-1 team in a major conference??
