Do the 610 DJs read the forum like the 1560 people? I want to know if he scouted Pamesa Valancia/Matt Nielsen on his euro trip.
Oddly, yes. Most people who are considered geniuses aren't writers, they're scientists or mathematicians. Morey is the latter.
Here's the podcast: http://www.sportsradio610.com/topic/play_window.php?audioType=Episode&audioId=3603750 Enjoy!
Good interview. I hope Morey someday "opens the kimono" in a book after we win a championship. It would be fascinating to see exactly why certain decisions were made, and what we knew that other teams didn't.
no dunk contest for white if left up to the team, they think it's often a distraction to a player and would rather they focus on fundamentals/practice.. dont pay attention to player ratings like ESPN's, they focus more on how a player fits with this team specifically (like with battier) talked about MIT... Tracy is doing well, starting to get around now, but its going to take another 2 months or so before he could really get a feel for how the knee is healing. talked about the playoff race... talked about "mega assists", basically assists that lead to shots they want, like easy shots, fouls, etc. Says tmac is one of the best, and that Brooks and Ron actually rank well within the team in mega assists. I think he mentioned someone else too, cant remember though, maybe scola?
Hmm...I think you'll have a tough time holding this one up. With the way we compensate our academics these days, you could even argue the opposite, that there have been fewer and fewer geniuses in the sciences for some time now.
Oh, boy. I could spend a long while at Border's pointing out how this statement is B.S. Now, writers generally being underappreciated, because so many people think good writing is easy OR never read anyway OR can't write and don't care.....another story.
I agree. Maybe it would have been better if he would have said mathematicians and such don't generally spend as much time focusing on writing or public speaking as they do with their own field of study.
I would argue there have never been a bunch of geniuses. I break it down like this... 1. There are geniuses who come up with new ways of looking at or understanding the world... Plato, Newton, Einstein, Freud, Darwin, Michaelangelo, Shakespeare, Beethoven, etc. 2. There are really really smart, talented people who can significantly build on the work done by the geniuses or revolutionize smaller areas of knowledge. 3. There are really smart people who can understand the work done by geniuses and tinker around the edges or push through new approaches in smaller areas. 4. There are smart people who can understand what the geniuses did, but don't have the chops or talent to add anything more. 5. There are a bunch of above average folks who can generally understand the work of geniuses in a simplified fashion. 6. There are people that have no clue. Most of the people we refer to as geniuses fall between groups 2 and 3. I'm a 5. Morey appears to me to be a solid 3, maybe leaning towards a 2 in his field.
i have no idea why people give morey so much credit. i don't think he's done a bad job, but i also don't equate him to god or any supernatural being. i tend to believe that the majority of people in this world fall between 4 and 5, with scattered 6's. btw: this is fact because i'm a 1. i am god, now bow before me.
