I normally don't care about this stuff, unless we're getting some unusal respect from the national media, but this is KD out on limbs. I am amused. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ba...t=AleYmOtADrrDUcyGL33TALW8vLYF?urn=nba,151787 To me this is the least interesting aspect given what's likely to happen the next 10 days: 5. Houston Rockets - You were hoping for something interesting about the Rockets? Some funny YouTube clip or cute photo? I've got news for you, there's nothing interesting about the Rockets. Save for the fact that this team appears to suck horribly on paper, and yet they're among the NBA's elite.
We have five players who've played in the D-League; including four who played in the D-league in the past two seasons. Our PG's have a combined 3 full NBA seaons between them. Our most expensive player is out for the season. Our 6th man was shot and is currently out. Need I go on?
Yeah, but it is still quite an overstatement. They were a playoff team without Yao last year on paper. Why not sans McGrady plus Artest plus Ming? I don't get too wrapped up in what the media thinks, but I feel a lot of stuff gets repeated enough in the national media until people accept it as fact. The Rockets clearly have a very talented roster with a lot of depth. IOW, they do not suck on paper. That their sum is greater than all the parts, that they overachieve, and all that jazz (with no reference to the Utah Jazz intended!) is probably true.
It does not follow from any of the above that we "suck on paper." At the most it suggest the Rockets are young. The Landry situation is temporary. As far as McGrady...well it is what it is.
I concur. hopefully we wrap up the number 3 seed and bust out of the first round so we get some respect!!
I didn't take "on paper" literally, but xcrunner51's post pretty much sums up how outsiders (those that don't watch us) probably see the team. I'll add that Brooks/Lowry are undersized, we really need points from Wafer, and Artest's shot selection on occasion makes an average offense look really inept. And the national perception of Yao is even worse than most who deride him here.
I still disagree with "this team appears to suck horribly on paper" but the team is overachieving. Kelly Dwyer often states that he watches tons of basketball so I would be willing to bet that he knows more about the Rockets than 99% of national sportswriters. I disagree with his statement but that doesn't mean his opinion is not an educated one. Back to the quote, I guess an All-Star center, a Power Forward who is just a tier below being an All Star and is part of a Power Forward duo that averages 22/14, the league's most celebrated glue guy at Small Forward, a borderline All Star and one of the best two way players alive at Shooting Guard and a pair of young, inexperienced but promising players at Point Guard doesn't exactly "suck horribly on paper" in my opinion.
If you read the entire article, it's apparent the author is either menstruating or about to fired. No wit or sting to anything he says in here, so I don't get where the humor part of the article was supposed to kick in?
I'm not sure why people don't think he follows the Rockets as he used to post here and maybe he still does.
Kelly Dwyer is awesome. I love reading his posts on yahoo. I haven't seen him on this board in a very, very long time.
He used to be at SI when he was active here. He moved to Yahoo and prob has other job responsibilities, which is why I'm guessing he doesn't post here anymore. He made lots of very knowledgable comments about the Rockets though, even though he's not a Houston fanboy. I don't think we're horrible on paper, but we're definitely much worse on paper than we were at the beginning of the season (when we were a common pick to at least reach the conference finals).
Yeah, I don't understand all this stuff about how we're "overacheiving" or whatever... We have a very talented team, both on paper and on the court. Even without Tracy.
Suck horribly on paper? WTF? On PAPER we are the best team in the league. I'm done with Yahoo! sports as of right now.
I find it amusing that we demand this recognition from our critics and we are pissed if they downgrade us. We really shouldn't care about this stuff nor should it give us a big head about our playoff push. I'd rather see negativity than praise from the critics as motivation going into the playoffs. We've finished the season strong 3 out of the last 4 years and gotten the same recognition and it did not help us in the playoffs...
