It's clear the rockets need to trade cuttino for a veteran big man, and pick up jay williams in the draft! check out this line up....

    williams
    francis
    rice
    griffin
______cuttino-trade...fill in the blank, who can we get for cuttino?

I agree. Or move him to the 6th man role that he does well. But, draft Jay Williams. Why not. Pick up a small forward from the 15th spot.

Not any big man you would actually want.

    Trading small for big?

No knocking Otis Thorp (loved the guy in Rockets red), but that's pretty much all we gave up to get Clyde Drexler(I don't remember if we gave picks up too). Cat ain't Clyde, even if he's much younger than Clyde was when he got traded.

I agree that Stevie might make a nice 2, but who says Jay Williams will actually be better than Stevie (all-star) at the point? That's a pretty tall gamble.

Our guards are good. Lets not mess with them. Lets actually focus on improving some of the other weak spots via the draft. 3,4, and 5 all need serious help.

Never a good idea to make "trade (a player who has earned his place on this team through years of hard work)" one of your first 3 posts.

How about we just trade "da jet" to Northern Alaska? That makes more sense to me.

cattino may put up Garnnet like #s but he sucks imo. Sorry rockets fans, I know having a best friend is good and all but where trying to win another title. I say it sounds like a good idea! "But Ming comes first!"

A player that is the second leading scorer
    a gamer
TOOK *SIGNIFICANTLY* LESS to play for your team
[try to convince someone else to do that after you screw Cat]
because of that his is the best value for the money

NAME A STARTING 2 that is better than CAT or AS GOOD
who makes Equal or less than CAT
[and is not on their rookie contract]

If they on their rookie contract. . . will they ask for more
    than Cat is getting?

Trading The Cat is bull**** .. . .

The Rocks would not be able to get a good center for Cat.

Hell, I doubt they could even get a good power forward for him.

    He's fine where he is.

and a Francis-Jwill backcourt would suck.

A Maryland guard and a Duke guard on the same team....probably wouldn't be a good idea.....besides, 2 guards are supposed to be big scorers and that's what Cuttino did last season.

    Why would a JWill(2) / Francis(1) backcourt suck? Seriously?

I'm for putting him in his 6th man role. He brings in a spark, but he also has his weaknesses. There are reason's this team is in the lottery and they are in the back court as well as the front court.

You have to be kidding about the post count thing.

Why Jay Williams isn't an upgrade from Cat.

Jason Williams (he was still Jason at this time)
    2002 21.3 pts, 3.5 reb, 5.3 ast, 3.7 to, .457 fg% .676 ft%
    Cuttino Mobley
    01-02 21.7 pts, 4.1 reb, 2.5 ast, 2.4 to, .434 fg%, .850 ft

Williams put up those numbers against COLLEGE comp. Sure Cat played more minutes but he sustained those numbers over more than twice as many games against the NBA and only averaged 3 more attempts per. So why should we dump a proven player for someone who at best will put up similar numbers while being an UNDERSIZED SG? Would it not be better to take Dixon later in the draft?

The issue at the moment is address the center position. Jay Williams is a good prospect but our needs right now is the 5 and the 3. And when you got a 5 coming out who can put the ball in the hoop and at 7'5 who is 21 has the potential to be an intimidating presence in the middle and at least change shots defensively thats production the Rockets need. Just add some strength to him and you've got a respectible rebounder. Steve at the 1 is doing a good job. Don't change what isn't already broken. Maybe Im overlooking the advantages Jay Williams has over Steve at the one which would be a nice backcourt but it isn't our number one need to change the backcourt.

Getting rid of Mobley and drafting Williams is the fastest way to get rid of Francis.

How does Francis/Williams backcourt make us significantly better than Francis/Mobley??? Like others have said backcourt isn't our most pressing need and we'd having one of the smallest starting backcourts in the West.

Mobley is a ball hog who doesnt know how to run a good offense. If the Rockets draft Ming, I'm sure he will be another Shawn Bradly!....AND DREWDOG....WHATS WRONG WITH U? IS YOUR UNDERWEAR TOO TIGHT?

Mobley is a ball hog, but I am betting if he had more trust in his frontcourt teamates that he would pass the ball more often.

    Ming.....anyone?

The only reason Mobley's name should arise in trade discussions is for a franchise player like Garnett. Mobley + no. 1 + cap filler for Garnett. I would say go for it. But anything less and you risk losing Francis as some other posters have already said...

    Mobley+cap filler+1

    for Garnett?

I would hold out for Garnett + their future #1s, 2s and their arena.

The number one reason not to trade Cat is NOT that Steve might leave, it is that you lose CAT. He was the MVP of this team last year, and if he keeps up his pace from the second half of the season he will be an all-star next year.
