Is this the right forum?:D Otherwise, if we get in the lottery, just win, baby, just win. Win #1 and no trades are needed!

Actually, I was wondering if this was the right forum myself, enbehay, when I started this thread, but I figured what the hell, I think it is, so I'll put it here. Also, for the main fact that this forum is read more than the College Corner.

Someone said earlier, I think it was red, that it would only take KT and our draft pick. Boy, I sure hope that is the way it would play out. Although, I would like to keep KT over Mo, KT has more upside because he is not coming off a bad injury like Mo is.

However, like someone else said: would that be enough?? I have this feeling it wouldn't be and that whoever has this pick would want more than our pick and KT. Whether or not that includes adding Mobley to the deal or the pick from Toronto or whatever, I don't know. But, if all we have to give up is our first round pick and KT, then we ought to jump on that deal.

Maybe Ming would have to split time with Cato at first, but at 7-6, he along with EG would give us all kinds of shotblocking and I think that his offensive game will come. Call me crazy, but I have this feeling that his offensive game will be more polished than Manute Bol or Shawn Bradley.

After posting, I thought about my own answer. We are talking about trading a player like KT and a pick or picks for the chance to draft Ming, so it's in the right forum. But I'd rather win the lottery! IMO, Ming would make the Rockets incredible.

    Manny,

I certainly think Ming could help the team, but I would be careful in regards to giving up players. If it could be two picks for one - sure, go for it...but I do not know about giving up players with picks, even if it is just KT.

My reasoning is that, as has been said, Ming is not an inside presence on offense - what we need most. He is a good shooter and is working on a hook, but we need someone who can post up and do the inside dirty work type moves as well. Sure, he could learn, but that is just an extra risk.

On the defensive end, I like his shot-blocking potential, but would still worry a little about his rebounding. He seems to be a pretty decent weight, but it remains to be seen if he will be pushed around and out of position under the boards or if he has the proper instinct.

Bradley is taller, thinner, and has never been a good rebounder. Murhesan was taller and about the same thickness and was never a great rebounder. Manute Bol...nevermind.

Additionally, I remember stories of Wang outplaying him in most head-to-head matchups. Wang is a decent scoring reserve center for the Mavs, but all he provides is shooting and he would not be an answer for the Rockets, putting Ming in more uncertain light.

The Rockets need a fallback plan if their shot is not going down. Mo T is not the answer (while I love his offense, I think it would be wrong to force him to only post up, as that is the weaker part of his game), Griffin hasn't shown anything yet and will take some time, and Cato...hmmm. KT is our best inside presence and, as we all know, he is a little short and inconsistent (as far as inside finishing goes) to be the answer. The problem is, he might be the best option and, thus, it could be risky to trade him away.

So, I agree with you to a degree, but I am still wary.

I'm going to resurrect this thread because it is obviously pertinent to what has been going on since Sunday.

    Also, to reinforce the idea:

Championship teams (with the exception of the Jordan-led Bulls, which is the exception to the rule) always could have their offense go through their 5s.

If Ming can become even like Rik Smits, then we could always have a great chance of being a contender for years to come.

If there was a Bible to basketball, one of the first commandments must be:

Thou shall build team around thy center

If we were willing to make the move 2 months ago. It seems to make more sense now. We give up nothing and get huge potential, which is all you ever get out of the draft. Besides I haven't read of any great (realistic) deals for the 1st pick. Dealing down and changing out parts seems to destroy the chemistry that is there. Particularly when you talk about trading KT who is the hardest working bench player we have.

Anyway, I'm new, what do I know.
