Is it really that good? If I'm looking for the best Tex-Merx on the NW side of the city, is Pappasito's really the place to go, or am I going to have a better experience at a place like Los Cuco's? Atmosphere-wise, food-wise, etc... The menu just seems kind of expensive compared to a lot of good Tex-Mex I've had before. ..
They are currently running a promotion on Wednesdays, beef and chicken fajitas for 2 for $16.25.... as for the food its pretty good and definitely high quality
It's a relatively big chain, with high quality food (which doesn't have to mean fantastic tasting, btw!), giant proportions, and pretty good drinks. Personally, I prefer local, family run spots (like Matt's El Rancho in Austin, for instance, and there are many, many more excellent Mexican eateries here in the Capitol), but you could do a heck of a lot worse.
My question boils down to this.... If I am bringing someone to visit Houston(or that has never had or even heard of Tex-Mex(or ever been to Texas, for that matter)food, should I settle for Pappasito's? My brother-in-law has a fairly large amount on a gift certificate to Pappasito's and wants us to use it. That's essentially the reason why I choose to go to Pappasito's. I would feel awful refusing the offer. I just worry that the atmosphere at a chain restaurant would not introduce her to proper Tex-Mex style...
Ah, that explains a lot. Why don't you take her there, and then take her to a more authentic place before she leaves, if there's time?
They have really good fajitas. Everything else is just decent (IMO). If you stick with the fajitas, your guest will be impressed
The only good thing about Pappasito's is the fajitas. That's it. But their fajitas are amazingly good. I also like El Patio in mid-town. Great fajitas too at almost 1/2 the price.
If I'm taking an out of towner to eat tex-mex, I take them to Pappasito's. High quality food, good drinks, fun atomsphere, good for visitors. But if its just me, I'd much rather eat at Lopez or Gringo's.
Maybe I will try this. We're both flying in from New York to stay with family in the Magnolia area. We're staying for about a week. I remember from when I used to live there that even in a tiny town like Magnolia, there are two or three good, local family-owned places. Maybe we'll hit up a small place on the ride home from the airport, and then go to Pappasito's when we're out and about visiting the city and whatnot.
I've always though Pappsitos was easily one of the most over-rated Tex-Mex joints around. But I've never had their fajitas. I figured if they couldn't make decent enchiladas, I wasn't going to bother with them anymore. But I guess I'll have to try their fajitas, now.
