I dont think AB is selfish at all He jus needs time to figure out everything but the one thing he can do is score from time to time so once he has everything figured out he will be alrite
That was my initial assessment as well DD. Strangely one post so far basically saying he is selfish and that was done with a picture. There were complaints in other threads about it, and not from the poster who put up the pic. Where are they in the thread that speaks directly about it(albeit in a manner to debunk it).
This thread is a complete garbage. if anything, Aaron needs to be more selfish. He needs to take 20+ shots.
Hes a score first guard, if that considered selfish then I guess you can call it that. He can flat out shoot the ball, in fact I think he passes up on a lot of easy shots and makes them harder by driving into a crowd of people. Hes got a lot to learn, but I still like him over Rafer.
He has no idea how to make an entry pass to Yao. Too bad Yao isn't Duncan kind of player, he needs someone to pass him the ball to be effective. And AB sucks on that.
Aside from actually acquiring Lowry, the best part of the Rafer trade is Morey's willingness to ditch the "game manager" approach since that's essentially what Rafer was. A "pure point" that we *HAD* to play 40 minutes a night because of his experience and expectation to play that many minutes. Once we dealt for Lowry that dynamic changed for the better dramatically. Minutes should be dictated by match up's and quality of play, which is precisely the way things have been since we acquired dealt Rafer. I do not agree that Brooks is selfish. Brooks is simply a smart player that knows how to score. He doesn't fit that "game manager" mold. I like this approach. I think it's much more effective and allows Adelman to be more flexible with his line ups rather than being expected/forced to stick with Rafer through thick & thin.
I'm just curious to know this but why does Yao always have to touch the ball?? Aaron Brooks is doing a good job. Not the best but enough for now. We can't really pass judgment on the guy because he hasn't really had a full season under his belt with being the guy. Aaron Brooks is a combo guard. A scorer first then a passer. He did it with the Oregon Ducks and he is doing it here with the Houston Rockets.
Brooks does something Rafer could not do... it keeps the defense honest. Back then, most defending PG would back off and allow Rafer to shoot it. Rafer would go 3-11 on days like that. Now with Brooks, Ive noticed that many defending Pg play closer at times, enabling him to efficiently play the pick and roll and drive. And as soon as they give him that open space, he isnt afraid to pull the trigger. While he isnt in the best shooting days right now, I have no doubt that this added dimension to our PG position will become a vital part to our run in the playoffs
How stupid you are. Out of all the ration guys, AB has the 3rd lowest TS% on Rockets, only better than Chuck Hayes and slightly better than Ron Artest. If Rockets let AB shoot 20+ shots on 40% shooting while ignoring Yao, Scola etc, they are going nowhere. In fact, if both AB and Artest shoot less but pass more, Rox as a team will score more points without question.
Oh, I dont lose any sleep when Yao doesnt touch the ball. But one of the complaints I observed along side "Aaron is selfish" is that Yao should touch the ball more OR that Aaron is keeping touches away from Yao by shooting so much.
Maybe he was trying for sarcasm, but forgot the ??? 85% of the shots Artest takes are usually pretty good. Shots that he can hit more than 40% of the time. And strangely enough, his bad shots come more on drives trying to draw a foul than on wild 3 pointers.
I agree with this, but if he can't get Yao the ball he shouldn't be our starting pg, and his post-entry passing seems to have gotten worse lately.
I see complaints also and when I was watching the game I started laughing because everytime Aaron brought the ball down he looked at Yao 1st. He passed the ball to Yao so many times I laughed at the thought when guys on here say Aaron doesn't pass the ball to Yao. Aaron is doing his job at being the point guard. If he doesn't see a clear opening to pass Yao the ball he drives to the basket to make something happen. I don't understand why some guys would say he is selfish. I lost track of his record as a starter but he is doing a good job. The only question is how would he play with McGrady. How would his game be when he has basically two guys who are capable of being the number 1 option.
AB is not selfish, he just does what any player would do when uncomfortable or in trouble ... he reverts back to what he knows best which is shoot. I wouldn't hold my breath on him improving his dishing skills. What I think he can get better at is controlling the tempo and in-game management with more experience. His post entry passing isn't just about Yao. I've seen him look uncomfortable doing it when passing to Scola, Landry, and Artest also. When he is unsure if he can pass it ... he will shoot the three or dribble away to the other side no matter if they have good post position. Sometimes it turns out OK but more times than not they were probably the better option.
I think maybe his he isnt used to the angles and what not of the help defenders. Seems he doesnt like to take risks on the pass. I remember back in the day with Dream that players would make entry passes where I was like NOOOO. But Dream got it and would often make some amazing move and all would be well.
This is only is second year. His passing skills can be worked on. Anything can happen. As for the post entry passes I think it would be kind of hard for him because of his height. He has another guy standing in front of him so its not going to be easy. Then he has to determine if Yao, Scola, Landry, or Artest has their man pinned down so he can pass it to them. Its not as easy as some may think it is
He'll get better at finding Yao. It's not like thats an area a PG isn't capable of improving. Plus, his range from downtown more than offsets his funky bounce passes and any trouble he has finding Yao. Considering how frequently Yao gets doubled, we definitely a need a player like Brooks out there that other teams must respect from the outside.
Not only do I not think he is selfish, I'm pretty sure that Adelman wants Brooks to do what he's been doing. With Battier's scoring down, we need someone else in the starting lineup who can get some points. Scola's going to get his, and he doesn't exactly need to be a focal point to play well. He's also the only player in the starting lineup who's willing to penetrate when given the chance; this isn't a knock on Artest, I just haven't seen the willingness to drive to the basket out of him that Brooks has shown. I'm reasonably happy with his performance. I think that he'll do for the rest of this season as a starter, and next season he should really be coming into his own. I think he's going to be a really solid player for us, either starting or as the first guy off the bench. The only reasonable criticism of Brooks' play so far is his entry pass into the post. This can only get better with time, and he's only going to learn by doing. He's been a project so far, and its going pretty well. Don't worry, be happy. I believe he will put it all together.
Are you sure you're talking about Brooks and not Lowry? Brooks is a shooter. His advantage over Kyle is his 3 point shot. How do you expect a 5'10'', 160 pound guy to penetrate the defense? He can get to the hole in transition, but can't finish with contact the way Lowry does. However, I do agree that he needs to maintain agressiveness. Don't look at his 1 ast, 0 ast games, that's what the coach is telling Aaron to do. Attack. Shoot. Score. It opens it up for everybody else, especially Yao. The asts are going to everybody else.
