the first house isnt too far from where I stay at interesting I would like to see that place up close. pretty cool and innovative if you ask me i would just think that the heat though could be unbearable though during the summer months. for that matter even in the cold months.
Wish I was creative like that. Give me a container and I'd be living in some rusty old box that smells of old sardines.
Ppl living in these container homes will feel like baking potato in the summer, and fish from the freezer during the winter.
Elaborate prefab housing will become more mainstream in the future. Not only is it economical, but can also be environmentally friendly.
A buddy of mine is an architect. He has been telling me about these for a couple years. Apparently, if you look in the right spots, you can get one container for a few thousand. They are very eco-friendly, and I believe, like someone said, he told me that if you do it right, and make it nice, you can insulate them. That would be an awesome thing to have one designed to fit your needs. It would be much cheaper than a traditional house, too...
I work around these things all day. Yea I work at CY. poor me LOL, but I wouldnt trust those things against high winds. We have had windy days where a box three high have just flew off like nothing. But you put 6 53 highcubes and you got yourself a mansion. Right now is the best time to buy sale boxes since movement is slow and the economy is bad.
I'm not totally sure, but I'm thinking when they're anchored down, these things are fairly sturdy... On Ebay, you can get a container with about 1,400 sq. feet of storage space (edit: this amounts to about 320 square feet of living space) for about 2500 bucks.
There's a couple of these going up in Houston. One is at 206 Cordell (just of N. Main west of I-45) and it's on the Rice Design Alliance Home Tour this weekend.
