Gotta hit the 'wtf b.s.' button on that one. Concealed weapons are the main deterrent to crime? What basis do you have to make such a claim? Besides, his whole point was saying that since other countries have far less armed citizens, shouldn't your point of "less concealed weapons = more crime" mean that America would be much safer? While in fact we have a much higher crime rate... especially violent crime
Goes both ways, since those countries have less guns, shouldn't they have more crime as well? Oh and by the way, might want to narrow violent crime to firearm related incidents, or else there will be another 2 or 3 pages on the definition of violent crime and what percentage of it is guns.
I don't think there is any objective proof whatsoever that guns deter crimes. On the other hand, I don't think guns increase crime either, but it may increase the violence level of crimes. When some nutcase in China goes on a rampage, he usually has a knife. In America, he has a gun.
And in this story, the fact that another person had a gun as well also increased the violence level. So all in all, I guess I am leaning towards the no gun side. But the Second Amendment is already such a deep part of the American culture, I don't think it can be changed. Since I think we are destined to live in a gun-infested society anyway, then I guess the "good guys" should bear arms too.
well even a cheap crappy gun can sell for a couple hundred...maybe he shoulda sold his gun to feed his family and brougt an application to burger king instead of a weapon
Dude turn on spiketv and watch worlds wildest videos...you see what happens when a bad guy does something bad...the police become his best friend because the public will stomp them to death. And since when do those countries not have problems with lunatics waving guns?
my thoughts on it as a person who recently took the class to get a license to carry...the guy going into burger king with a loaded gun may not have planned on shooting anyone but the fact that it was loaded mean he was prepared to. As soon as that deadly weapon comes into play the chl carrier has to decide 1. can he do anything to help the situation 2. is the risk worth dying for. My thoughts are if I am carrying a weapon I have already made the decision that what I am about to do is worth killing for, being worth dying for is something entirely different but how do I know what that bad guy has decided. Now I am not saying the chl holder did the right thing because nobody can except him, but making the argument that robbing burger king isn't worthy of the death penalty is accurate. BUT putting a loaded gun into play is because you cannot know what that bad guy is going to do with said gun. Unfortunately too many people out there, including cops, love the power of the gun and what is can do and are not capable of making clear and sound decisions in a high pressure situation. If I am sitting in a BK with a pistol in my pocket and a nut comes in and robs the place im doing my best to get the heck out of there, but if the life of myself or an innocent person is in jeopardy I have to ask myself the 2 aforementioned questions. Problem is nobody knows for sure how they will react until its actually happening. my 2 cents in general gun laws only apply to law abiding citizens if guns kill people then pencils misspell words
but if we banned all writing, no words would ever be misspelled. we should ban any writing instrument that does not have a spell checker. Just look at china. they have characters instead of an alphabet and they have 85.4% fewer misspelled words. when will this country join the rest of the world
LOL, the vast majority of the civilized world HAS GUN CONTROL!! I agree, when will this country join the rest of the world.
The vast majority of the civilized world doesn't have a lot of the societal problems we have. You just cannot equate our societies to those abroad.
I would think small crimes would decrease, since it wouldn't be worth stealing that purse with $20 if grandma has a gun, but deaths and violent crime would see a spike proportionally, since more people are in situations where they are willing to confront a thief/robber since they have guns. And of course there would probably be some more accidents/ negligent discharges. The question is if small crimes would decrease enough to make it worth it.
Actually there was an unmarked cop car on the scene that was afraid to exit the car because he feared getting shot. By Horn. Details...
