My grandparents on both sides of my family all have pretty unique names that you just don't see much anymore. It made me curious as to what other first names are still floating around out there that will slowly die away. On one side of my family my grandfather is named Durwood and my grandmother is named Arcelia. On the other side my grandfather was named Ralph (a little more common) and my grandmother was named Georgia.
Durwwod or Durwood? My grandfather's name was Edwin. Don't see that very much any more, at least in America. There is Edwin Maysonet on the Astros but he's from Puerto Rico. My grandmother's name was Geraldine.
My grandfather was named Ferdinand and my grandmothers were named Alsine, Ruth Jane, and Darice. My great grandmother was named Leanora.
My father is Milton, which he hates btw. A good friend of mine growing up was named after her father who died while her mother was pregnant with her. So she ended up being named James Pryor De...... She went by Pryor, and absolutely hated her name.
The only grandfather I knew was named Orman. My grandmothers were Vera and Reva, interestingly enough.
Especially in many black athletes, their names can be a bit perplexing these days (Plaxico, D'Brickashaw, Vakeaton), but those guys were born in the 80's. Well I can't imagine when all the kids born these days are in their 20's.
My grandfather on my mother's side was named Fanor. I tried searching that and mostly got hits on some company DeVry was buying out or something and occasional myspace pages of people with the same name. I also searched some name databases/baby name sites and it's not listed.
Mom's parents - Clifford and Myrna Vae Dad's parents - John and Enid Myrna Vae is most certainly the most unique name I've heard, and I'm starting to really find beauty in it.
My grandparents: Edgar Edwin Berneice Nel Interesting thought. I wonder how long "James" will last thinking about it.
Paternal grandparents: Coda and Pauline (uses her middle name Ruby) Maternal grandparents: James and Etta
