well i rather him shoot 3's just better looks instead of shots that tmac would try. plus i dont like him driving to the basket, he doesnt get the calls and he loses the ball sometimes. not atheletic to get to the rack all the time. i rather see von taking it to the rack.
No, I don't think he does at all. If anything, he needs to shoot more three's. "More" meaning: smart shots with his feet set. Artest is a rare example where a player shoots better from long distance than he does from the field. The point is Artest *is* a good shooter. He just tries too hard sometimes offensively, especially when challenged by a star or good defender, to take over the game and often times drags the offense down with him if his shot isn't falling. He's basically competitive to a fault, as another poster here put it. Given that I just read Moneyball, I can almost picture Billy Beane if we worked for the Rockets going absolutely NUTS due to the variance between percentages of when Artest does the ISO/dribble/pullup stuff and when he simply sets his feet & shoots. The difference has to be staggering.
ron contribues wayyyy more defensively than offensively even when he's hitting the 3pters. He's like a beast version of battier.
BS Even TMac was better at making the ill advised shots than RONVICT. Neither are as good as they think, so I can see comparing them in that respect. THIS WHOLE LIVES AND DIES BY THE 3 BECAUSE NO ONE ON THIS TEAM EXCEPT YAO CAN CONSISTENTLY CREATE THEIR OWN SHOTS.....thats why the Jazz beat our asses because they do have guys that can create and when they do they create under control unlike AB and Artest and the rest of the team. JUST THINK IF THEY DIDN'T DOUBLE TEAM YAO as much as they do.....we would be in real trouble. Thank God at least he is good at passing.
Bingo. If his shot isn't falling, he can drive to the basket. The question is whether he decides to keep jacking up shots or drive.
It's his shot selection. Ron has a tendency to seperate himself from the game, and go one on one. It's how he's been since he was at St. Johns. While it's "selfish play", I honestly don't think he realizes he's hurting the team when he's doing it. He's just trying to do things outside of his skillset. It's still beyond me why we don't run more plays for him in the post. He's stronger then most every player who guards him, and can actually be crafty around the basket. It would also cut back on his ball handling which is an absolute train wreck
Let's see .. G FGA/m 2P/m 3P/m FG% 2P% 3P% win 41 14.7 9.5 5.2 44% 44% 42% loss 19 16.1 9.4 6.7 34% 30% 39% diff +1.4 -0.1 +1.5 -10% -14% -3% He shoots 3s more frequently in losses, there's a bit of a dip in 3-point shooting, and a dramatic difference in his shooting inside the arc. You could make the case he lives and dies by his 2-pointers.
I'd say he lives and dies by long jumpers (including 3's) lately. He's not great at getting the ball on the perimeter and penetrating, so he goes for the long jumper instead. I think we need to get him the ball in better spots (ie the post). That said, he also needs to pass the ball when he's smothered. Once he's decided he's going for a shot, there's no turning back. Call it persistence or stubbornness, depending on if he makes it. He really needs to get out of that zone and realize he can still change his mind and make a pass. But he is shooting 41% from downtown, which is kind of surprising.
Artest wasn't brought in too be a mid range shooter or a prolific dunker. He was brought for his shooting and defense. If ya'll have a problem with Artest filling in the role he was brought in for. I think you guys need to take it up with Morey.
As always, nice work. I echoed similar sentiments in my earlier post that you could basically argue he needs to shoot more three's considering he's currently a part of the rare phenomenon of players that shoot better from long range than they do from the field. I wish it was possible to track and quantify all his dumb/forced/ISO/off-balance shots vs. smart shots where he sets his feet. I have a feeling the variance between those two percentages would be pretty shocking.
He's been shooting 3s well this season, so we can't complain about it. I know he has had a lot of 1/9 or 0/8 games, but that's not the problem, IMO. The thing is, as you guys said his shot selection. He likes to jack up bad shots. They are all bad shots, evern when they are going in, those are still bad shots. One night they will go in, the other one they will not. So yes, he lives and dies by his own shotselection. Coaches has to talk to him about that. He ain't MJ.
He might cost us some games, but we are more likely to win with him on our team. As long as its the odd game here and there I don't think its a big issue.
In fact Rox live or die depending on whether Ron is playing team or iso games. If he plays sensibly and don't force shots and be patient in finding open teammates, Rox would be in great shape.
Like Battier said "Just keep shooting and shooting and it will eventually come back" so; why the hate on Ron Ron shooting 3s? Nah he does needs to chill at times he keeps shooting and shooting even when his shot ain't dropping example the last Lakers game. Kobe kicked his arse.
