He might not be able to defend him....YET. But just think next year, Yao could sit on the outside and when shaq comes to guard him, he could dribble right past him and dunk. We could have a shot at competing with the Lakers. IMHO.
Yeah just like Shawn Bradley does... You all need to get it through your heads YAO MING SUCKS It just the hype and mystery What do you all know about how good he is. He made some jumpshots in an excuse for a workout and everyone is on his nuts
Tozai, did you ever watch the conference finals in the west when the Lakers played the Blazers, for their first chamionship. Sabonis was giving Shaq problems. Only reason it the Blazer's didn't beat the Lakers was when Sabonis would have a good game, he would be too tired for the next. If Ming is anything like Sabonis form what I've heard he should give Shaq fits. To all you Ming bashers let up.....Don't be too quick to judge him. VC15
Rudy T picked Collier to allegedly give Shaq problems. The one thing Shaq does not want to do is come out and guard jump shooters. Of course, Collier did not live up to his billing. But do you think Rudy has changed his mind on how to counteract Shaq? You've got to believe Rudy is enamored with the idea of a 7'5" center dropping 15 - 18 footers on Shaq. On defense, 300 lbs. MoT can try to push Shaq off the block, with Ming providing weak-side help.
EddieWasSnubbed: Sorry, but there is no answer for Shaq, whether it's Ming and his 15-18 foot jump shots or Chris Marcus and his low-post offense. Shaq will outscore Ming forever and when Ming tries to step into the lane, he better come with it if Shaq is guarding him. We don't need a 7'5" center to take outside jumpers. We need a center who is in position to rebound on both ends of the floor and who is able to alter shots and score in the paint. If Ming is playig outside, we might as well draft Drew Gooden and have him play "center". 6'10" players shoot as well against Shaq as 7'5" centers. Shaq will either come out and guard a shooter or he won't. Does anybody remember what Horry did to Shaq in '95 when Hakeem was on the bench? The same thing that you want Ming to do: shoot 15-18 footers. P1st,S2nd
I dont even remember this post, but thanks to Chance's discovery of the new "search", I have found it. Turns out all you Yao bashers were wrong, and I may have even been right about Yao being able to stop Shaq. BTW, why did I spell it 'Shack'? Now if I can only find the thread where I predicted Yao to be the Western Conference starter this year....I remember calling him the NBA's Ichiro. See my sig...
Realistically, I think Yao can: 1. Gain another 20 to 30 lbs this summer; beef up upstairs 2. Improve his stamina 3. Solidify his hook shots 4. Become even MORE defined in the legs 5. Get lots of rest theSAGE
tozai, are you the alter ego of TroyBaros, Juugie or man532...... I am really curious. This is what you ranted last year..... tozai's previous post
Gaining 20-30 lbs is really the last thing I want for Yao. He is slow afoot as is. I can't remember how many wide open layups/dunks that we've surrendered because Yao was too late in protecting the goal.
Well, this thread is about finding an answer to Shaq. And the only answer to Shaq is in the 330 lbs to 350 lbs weight category. JMHO theSAGE
Do you REALLY think Yao will be as strong as Shaq? That's really what it boils down to. Getting stronger isn't enough. Shaq will still bully anyone who is weaker than him, and Yao will still be weaker than Shaq. Also, Yao's shooting and passing touch will probably be hindered. It's not worth altering your entire body for 1 player, when we haven't even made the playoffs yet.
I respect your opinions, kidrock8. However, I think getting Yao beefier helps the Rox team in the long run, with or w/o Shaq in the league. Yao can afford to get beefier, b/c quite frankly, he's no the best jumper. But a little more girth can make him a more formidable "box-outer" and rebounder. I honestly think it's only a matter of time btw strength training and American food that Yao starts to beef up in a meaningful way. And when I say meaningful, I mean "Shaqesque." Have you read Yao's quotes about his favorite foods lately? He likes steak, he likes buffalo wings. Translation: Yao is HUNGRY FOR PROTEIN. When was the last time we were hungry for protein day in day out??? Answer: When we're GROWING. Supersizing is totally IN again. theSAGE
i don't know if you watched the game against the orlando magic in orlando but yao dribbled past his man from the three point line to the basket and just finger rolled the ball into the hoop. funny thing about it is that yao was about to just post up, but the guy knocked it out of his hands and yao recovered the ball at the 3 point line and then dribbled it to the basket and scored. and he does frequently spin by guys and dunk it. there aren't any centers not named shaquille o'neal who can do that. "He also offered perhaps his best drive of the season, taking the ball from the corner to the rim. "Two steps, and he's at the basket," said Pat Burke, Yao's 6-11 victim. "I won't trap him in the corner anymore." " -quote i found from a houston chronicle article. i don't think yao's slow, since i've seen this guy run before, but i've also seen him in the late stages of this season suddenly just walking up the court or staying in the backcourt. no doubt he's tired. all i hear about from him in chinese newspapers is how he doesn't get enough sleep. how the media and etc bother him. i don't think yao will ever be a great player since 1. he's never going to get a rest. 2. he'll eventually ruin his physical condition by overworking himself. 3. the constant media attention will always be a distraction unless it disappears next season.
Hi, Tozai, glad to see you Yao-Haters jumped out again....where were you several games ago when Yao play well?
That man was DeClerq. Yao is ample fast. It's not easy transporting 300 lbs from one side of the court to the other. Big guys don't need to be too fast. THey just need good foot work and balance in working the paint. theSAGE
