With all of these "fat" threads, I figured I'd try to be productive. I know for myself that I always go out and grab lunch during my lunch hour, as I'm sure many of you do, as well. I simply don't like the idea of bringing my own lunch. Now we all know about every fast food place throwing a chicken patty on top of lettuce and calling it a salad, but I'm looking for more unique, "really good" items that we can all run through a drive through and grab. (or walk in and get to go.) If possible, try and google the nutritional info. on your suggestion. I'll start with Jack in the Box's Chicken fajita pita. Those things are pretty damn tasty. Grilled (kind of spicy, not to bad)chicken, with a small amount of shredded cheese, lettuce, tomato, grilled onion. Comes with salsa on the side. This is not a HUGE sandwich, its a medium pita half. Calories: 300 Fat: 10 g
Use the stairs instead of the elevator. Oh, you meant FOOD. OK, sorry. WALK to McDonald's. Eat standing up. Don't eat too late at night.
fast food isn't all bad for you, if you're able to be filled up on a itty bitty pita, then i doubt fast food is an issue for you it's the people who buys 1 meal + 2-3 side items, they're the ones that are overdosing on fast food everything is good in moderation, amirite?
Chik Fil A is probably the easiest fast food place to eat healthy. General rules are to avoid mayo, cheese, (non low fat) dressings, and limit the starch carbs (avoid buns and fries).
any good food under a buck? man i love those new snack wrap macs but theyre 1.59, i can only afford stuff under a buck, when i forget to bring my lunch, I go for whopper jr. and rodeo cheeseburger at BK, those are good for 2 bucks...
One thing to worry about is that at fast food joints that serve red meat, often times the chicken is cooked in the same beef grease... so it ends up being way fattier than a normal chicken sandwich.
Always leave out the mayo and dressings. It is amazing how many calories just a tablespoon or two of those has.
Most places have their nutrition info online. I basically try to keep my calories at around 1600 a day, and keep the salt under about 2400mg. Doing this requires picking most things that are not so fatty, and I hope it just shakes out. We'll see how it goes, have only been paying attention for a month or two. It's working, but slowly. Yeah, tequila doesn't help, good thing they don't serve that at most fast food places. Quiznos has a few things that aren't too bad, though some have a lot of salt. Subway is the easiest to figure, they have a lot of things. Grilled chicken at Chick Fil A is a good choice, though if you go club the salt gets really high, and you gotta go no sauce. Luckily, I like things pretty plain so no sauce or extra cheese on stuff isn't a big issue for me. Baked chips instead of fries at the sandwich places makes things easier on the waistline. Even bettter, Chick fil a has those fruit cups, and it's good. Most places do now, the task is choosing those things. I'm getting better about it. Good luck to anyone else in this boat, it's not easy, but not impossible either... there are choices out there these days.
Oh man I loveeeeeeeee Pita pit. This was a college stable as they delivered late night/early morning. Grilled chicken with fresh vegetables inside of a warm pita. So good. Good call.
When I'm craving fast food but don't want to totally pork out, I'll do Subway. I can get a 6-inch club (6 grams of fat) on honey oat bread with mustard instead of mayo and no cheese, salt or oil along with a bag of Sun Chips (which have fiber and 'good' fats) and be totally satisfied.
Just as I was reading this thread and considering something light for lunch, my coworked called to say she was at Popeye's and did I want something. I can't say no to Popeyes. I'm going to kill her later.
I usually get an original sandwich from Schlotzky's, baked regular chips, and a bottled water. When I'm hungry on campus I head to the Chick-Fil-A at the Union or Chipotle for the tacos w/o sour cream and guac, but extra cheese. I wish Wendy's still had those frescata sandwiches, those were legit.
Healthy is hard to find in fast food restaurants. I do like Veggie Bowls at Chipolte. The cheese and guac do have a bit of fat.
