Does this piss anyone else off?

So, I buy the Memento DVD a couple months ago right when it comes out. It's a great movie, but I'm a little disappointed with the lack of extras, but it's not that big of a deal. Fast forward to a couple months later and they drop this on me... http://www.bestbuy.com/movies/ProductInfo.asp?e=11120421&m=270&cat=&scat= ...It's pretty much the same price as the original, crappy Memento DVD, but with twice the content. This pisses me off so bad. The whole reason behind this is obviously to screw the consumer into buying two copies of the same movie. Let's face it the people who really want the Memento Special Edition are the same people that bought the original DVD when it first came out. This really gets my blood boiling, and it happens all the time. Bastards!!! I could maybe understand for an older movie who released a DVD when the DVD-craze first began, and then decided to release a special edition later, but to do it for new releases is BS!!!

Was a victim of the same situation with Dogma and American Pie.

The first released of Dogma was total crap, just the movie and a few Actor Profiles, not even a trailer. The second one was just one of the best ones that came out in 2001 but it was released a year after the first released.

American Pie came out with an Ultimate Edition and just added a few more extras. I mainly bought it because I am a hardcore fan of the movies.

Resident Evil is probalby going to go through the same. Supposdley they are going to release an uncut version of the movie on DVD.

    I haven't been a victim...but i think I'm about to be one.

I bought GoodFellas...one of the best movies ever (one of the worst DVDs ever). I mean this thing has 2 trailers and cast bios. That's it.
I hear they're gonna come out with a special edition soon...hope it comes quick.

Well, in the case of Goodfellas, that DVD came out years ago in the relatively early days of the DVD. To bring out a special edition now is a little different than is the case with Memento where a regular edition was brought out a few months ago and now a Special Edition is coming out. It hasn't even been a year since Memento was in the theaters.

I have the original Memento DVD. I don't think I'm going to be going out and getting the special edition, at least not until I can rent it first and see if it's worth buying the new disc. I've felt the same about the Usual Suspects disc. I have one of the originals (which has some extras, but not a whole lot), but they released a Special Edition recently. I've been tempted to get the new one but haven't yet.

This just makes me hate Memento even more. :) Actually, I think long and hard before buying any DVDs that don't have any or scarce special features knowing that a special edition will be coming out in the future. In know way am I mad that a Usual Suspects or Pulp Fiction is coming out with a special edition. By now, you shouldn't be either.

However, I do understand why you are in this case-it does seem like a very short period of time between the first release of the movie and the special edition release. What also pisses me off is when a DVD is a special edition chock full of cool extras, then they release another special edition with all new extras, just like The Sixth Sense did.

I like the way Lord of The Rings has been on pre-order status for about 1 or 2 months now even though the freakin' DVD won't be shipped until August or something. Of course right after August they'll come out with the super-duper enhanced version of the DVD that will cause the lemmings to go back and buy that, too. :)

I never buy a DVD just for the added features. I just don't care about them - I bought it for the movie.

Some of it is the studios' insistence that some DVD product be on store shelves 4-6 months after the theatrical run. Unless you start production of the "extras" very early, that's not enough time to get things completed.

I don't like the practice of multiple editions with different extras (heck, a *fourth* unique version of "Men in Black" on DVD was just released!), but am less annoyed if warning is given that a special edition is forthcoming (e.g.: "Dogma," "Almost Famous"), and the best thing may be to wait it out the extra 6-12 months!
