OK maybe ... #1, #15 and Rice for Kandi (resigned), Odom and #8. Clips unload some questions and unhappy campers and get 3 1st round pics - including the #1. We have a 3 and a 5 with Cato as backup and #8 to pick up a solid backup and maybe future starter for the 2 or 3 position. Add Rice as a contract filler - they'd only have his contract for 2 years. As a backup, he might make it through the next 2 seasons. Kandi/Cato Griffin/KT/MoT Odom/TMo Mobley/#8 Francis/Mooch Not a championship but a young playoff team. On second thought...nevermind...
The Clips or any other potential suitors for #1 must IMO meet these conditions: 1. take on some damaged goods (MoT or G'Rice) 2. take on some overpriced goods (Cato or Mooch) 3. offer a HEALTHY high-voltage player to complete a Franchise/Cat/_________ playoff-caliber triumvirate 4. throw in a proven HEALTHY role player They do NOT need to ask about KT, who brings scoring, boards, and big-time hustle quotient at a nice price.
The Clippers do not make the best personel moves historically and may be wary of Brand leaving at the first opportunity. The number one pick in this draft will yield a franchise center (at least that is the perception held by most teams). The conversation with the Clips must begin and end with Brand, or the Rocks should look elsewhere to trade. Yoa's upside is higher than Brand's and is more a true center than Brand (the only detraction I can think wrt him). Another point worth mentioning is that getting Yoa might lead to all of the Clips home games being sold out, which is something Brand can not do. To level out the trade, the Rocks should also demand another player like Miles The following would be a good trade for both teams: Houston trades pick #1 and #15, plus KT and Collier for to the Clips for pick #8 and #12, plus Brand and Miles With the 8th and the 12th pick, the Rocks could pick Woods and Stoudamire. The Rocks roster would like: 1: Francis, Norris 2: Mobley, Woods 3: Rice, Miles, Morris 4: Taylor, Griffin 5: Brand, Cato, Stoudamire BTW, if Yoa becomes a franchise NBA 5, the Rocks lose in the trade.
We might be able to get Odom without giving up the number one pick. KT, Moochie and 15th might do it. The Clips would then have #8, #12 and #15 to work with. I think they could easily move up to draft a pg or trade for an established pg.
To get Kandi in a sign a trade (the only way, because he cannot be traded before July 1st because he has an expiring contract), we would have to draft Jay Williams, and hold on to him until after the draft. This is a gamble because: 1. We don't know if Kandi wants to come here, and what he wants for a contract. No one can talk to him until after July 1st. 2. We lose leverage after we draft Jay Williams, because we have to trade him, or Francis will mutiny. Let's don't get cute; draft Ming.
Gee B-ball freak, true, the main points are very similar, but I did mention other things that u did not care to mention, thus making our posts different. I will say though that this was the first deal I thought of and didn't read your post thouroughly...perhaps being awake at 2:30 had something to do with it and my overzealousness and excitement about the entire thing caused me to write something w/o really reading all the posts carefully. If anything u should be flattered that u have someone who fully agrees with this deal. Possum, the Clippers may not be totally improving by mine and B-ball freak's deal, but they aren't improving by letting their players walk either. Kandi man will leave, if ya'll can recall he flamed the organization towards the end of the season, and I think he was fined or suspended for his comments. Odom, as I said is redundant now. He is now up for a contract extension and probably will demand the max and do u think Sterling is gonna go for that? They have Q. Richardson, Maggette, and Miles with no room for Odom. I think they wouldn't mind accepting some of those contracts. They may not like Cato's but if Kandi is no longer there, they will need another Center. Rice's contract ends in 2 years and there will be a lot $ off the books. Collier and Thomas also have fairly small contracts that will expire soon as well depending on if they pick up the options on them or not. Moochie, they may not accept though. I do think the most exciting part is that LA should not want a lot of rookies on their roster since they are already young and if we could get their 8 and 12 and combine that with our 15, we could so move up and get another impact player. But this is all dreamcasting and we have over a month to come up w/ as many scenarios as we want. I wish Mr. Oily or Doc Rocket would make an appearance...
Look no further than the Hangout!! Mr. Oily is a regular over there like yours truly....oh, you mean pops, e.g. oeilpere..my bad
I posted this in another thread before I saw this one, I like the idea of sending the #1 and #15 pick to the Clippers for Odom and Kandi and thei #8 pick. And maybe I'm wrong, but can't teams make deals before July, but the deal would be on hold until the deadline ends, and then automatically goes through? I could be wrong. I would LOVE this if the Rocks could pull it off! But if the Rocks can't get Kandi, which it sounds like they can't, I'd be happy with drafting another big man! The problem, who can the Rockets send to make up for a potential salary of Odom?
