I am not necessarily saying Tracy is a bad defender, but GP and others are implying that he doesn't try, that makes a big difference. They didn't say specifically that Tracy sucks on D, they said he "doesn't play D", which means he isn't putting in the effort. I can forgive a guy to an extent if he's bad, but no way can I forgive if he's not trying. In the end, not trying means not caring, and thats the frustrating thing with Tracy.
How can you say he doesn't want to win? We're talking about a guy that apparently "blocked" a trade so he wouldn't go to a bad team, remember ? The same guy that cried his heart out on national TV because he failed to get out the first round, again. If any other superstar cried after losing like Mac, everyone would talk about how much passion they have. Why did he demand a trade out of Orlando? Probably because he wanted to win. I think every basketball player, eventually wants to "win".
I Watched the Beat too and i had to agree with David Aldridge And Ernie Johnson..they said that Talent Wise we're not better without T-Mac and the reason why we're ballin' right now is because everyone knows their role and there's no lineup shuffle.. Next Year, when T-Mac returns..the roster we have right now will have a training camp under Rick Adelman and im sure it'll work out with T-Mac and this roster
I'm sorry you wasted your money on that Mcgrady jersey, but don't blame a diehard rocket fan who spends time and resources on their favorite team for that, blame the guy who gets paid millions and doesn't do his job.
Remember 2005? When we put T-Mac on Nowitsky on D?..The reason he doesnt try is because of his injuries..when healthy..he can be a very good defender
The TMAC we had this season yes. He had no lateral movement, speed, lift and confindence in his abilities this year. He he was healthy you would have seen an even better Rockets team.
Forget about McLady. He is the history. We don't need him, Only thing that we need is the salary that we owe him. For 20+ millions, we could get at least one great player or two good players.
We all know that Dirk is as fragile as tissue under pressure (playoffs against golden state) and besides, that was ONE instance or series. Do we as fans really have to pray that Tracy is motivated enough to play defense when he WANTS to? Shouldn't we expect this night in and night out, not in isolated cases? There's a reason Kobe has the reputation of being the best and one of the hardest workers in the league, it's because its TRUE. And there's also a reason, sadly, that Tracy has a reputation of perhaps being the most talented player in the league but not the best because he doesn't put in the work.
Give me a break! how long has tracy been in the league? He would has changed his attitude long time ago if he was that type of person.
Jeff was refering to when Dirk was going off against whoever was originally guarding him and Gundy decided to put T-Mac on him and he started shutting him down, if I remembered correctly, the first shot Dirk took when T-Mac was on him was an airball.
I thought McGrady played decent defense most of the time (until this season) and under JVG he had games where he played great defense and All Defensive Team defense from time to time when he was motivated. I'm glad he is gone and hope he never plays another game for the Rockets but some people (fans and media) need to stop revising history.
Isn't this too late? Tmac has been out for a few months now, and saying we have been playing better without him now after dozens of games have already proved that fact is silly IMHO.
tracy plays defense in the playoffs and at the end of games, but yah he does slack the rest of the game which is unacceptable, but he can play some shut down defense he just can be lazy on d sometimes...as for respecting gp...i hate that man almost as much as malone
T-Mac is the guy who is gonna take 23m dollars from rockets team next year without playing even one game.
Pretty much, if Tracy McGrady was healthy this season, we'd have probably been battling the Lakers for the top seed. But McGrady, Battier and Alston all ended last season in banged up shape and the only one that came back at close to 100% was Alston, which slowed us down tremendously in figuring out team chemistry, which is what we have been having now. Such a shame, because T-Mac being healthy and on the court would have been sweet to watch this season.
This may be a little off-topic, but I'm not sure if it'd be thread-worthy or not.. But could someone explain if trading T-mac for the 1st or 2nd pick would work?? Regardless if he is healthy or capable of playing, even if the team wasn't aiming for mac to actually play with him, wouldn't his contract be able to be dumped to create a 20 mil cap space for the crazy Free agents coming up??
