Why do we want Lewis?!??! It is obvious!! Huh? Right! ANyone who can win FOUR Olimpic gold medals must be one HELL of an athlete!!! Imagine what Lewis could do for HOUSTON, he could RUN down the court real fast and leave the opposing opponents in the dust, then he could jump REALL HIGH and dunkorama. LEWIS is a great OLYMPIAN and a GREAT American so I ssay Houston should sign him immediately after we GET RIDY OF RUDY!!!! ------------------ A HOUSE is not a HOME if it is ON FIRE.
It's gonna take a sign and trade to get him and our #1 pick is gonna have to be included. #1 pick + Kenny Thomas + Bryce Drew = Lewis? 1. Francis/Norris 2. Anderson/Mobley 3. Williams/Bullard 4. Lewis/Rogers 5. Cato/Olajuwon
Outlaw, that is WAYYYYYY too much for Rashard. That's the type of package I would take to Toronto in hopes of getting McGrady. And Lewis is not even close to being as good as McGrady. I like Lewis. I like him a lot. But he's not a good defender right now. Pretty much anyone who gets him down in the low block has their way with him. He's not a shot blocker!! He did have a couple in the Kings/Sonics game, but don't expect him being in the top 30 in Blocks anytime in the next 10 years. He really doesn't have the instincts for it, and he can't rely on McGrady-like athleticism to swat shots away. He's a good athlete, just not great. As Dakota pointed out, he has a fabulous work ethic. Very good jump shooter. I can see him being up there in 3 point shooting by the time his career ends. Handles the ball and shows flashes of being a good passer. Hasn't had the chance to show any post up game in the NBA so it's premature to judge his low post skills. He does hit the offensive glass well, slithering in the lane for the put backs. He is ALWAYS running the floor. Needs to get a little tougher. Needs a nasty streak. His shyness is a detriment at times. He has a problem with consistency. Hasn't really strung together more than a week of solid play. We could contribute it to inconsistent minutes, but I don't really have the answer. I like him, but I wouldn't break the bank to get this kid. He is still a major gamble. When thinking of Rashard, I think we should think in terms of a more athletic Detlef Shrempf than the next KG. And being a more athletic Detlef is not too shabby at all!!! ------------------
Hey Snowman, I was under the impression that Lewis was still pissed at the Rockets. That's all I've heard or read about him since draft day. If I was him, I'd feel the same way. Look at Griffey in baseball refuses to play for the Yankees because Steinbrenner kicked him off the field as a kid. These kind of grudges have annoying habit of lasting. When did he actually say that he wanted to come back? I'm not questioning your credibility. Just asking for a bit more detail. ------------------
Rashard was interviewed on TV last week and said he'll look at them just like any other team and he didn't sound like he held a grudge at all. He said he understood this is a business and things happen. If we get RL then we won't need KT since both play 4/3. We don't need Bryce if we re-sign Moochie. And I don't see us getting a player better than Rashard at #9. It's a lot to give up but I think it would be worth it. Of course I agree with you that McGrady is better than Lewis. But I think T-Mac is going to go to Orlando no matter what so it's a moot point to bring him up in regard to sign and trades. [This message has been edited by outlaw (edited April 21, 2000).]
He may leave for the 2.5 million exception. Looks like I end up posting this in every thread that mentions Rashard Lewis, but here it goes again: -Rashard Lewis is a restricted free agent. -The Rockets are over the cap. -The most we can offer Lewis is our middle class exception. -If we offer Lewis the middle class exception, Seattle will quickly match that offer. - Unless the Rockets do something dramatic and free up some significant cap space, there's no way that we can outbid Seattle for Lewis. Unfortunately, as a restricted free agent, Lewis doesn't have the option of taking less money to play in Houston. ------------------

Aeliiot, is Tim Thomas an unrestricted or restricted FA as well. What makes a player restr. or unrestr.--is it tied to the players years in the league or is it related to clauses in their previous contracts. In either case (Lewis or Thomas) I would suspect they least they will get is 3.5 million with an Early Bird with their current team, which we can only compete with via trade. Unless their current team want's to risk those players getting offers no better than the middle class exemption which they then can match. ------------------
