similar career numbers. sucks to say but even if Scola is better its about finding a way to lowball his numbers on down . Want to pay Scola Drew Gooden money or Carlos Boozer money, thats how I look at it
Gooden was making 7 million this year after the Kings cut him, i think Scola will command at least that kind of money, said it earlier in another post, 21-25 millions for 3 years is fine for him, AND for the team, maybe you could bail him down including one or more years on his contract, like 30 for 4 years or 35 for 5.
Since Scola has only played two years, do we have his full bird rights or only early bird rights? Isn't the early bird around the MLE?
We have early birds this offseason, but you cannot extend a player under contract with less than 3 years in your team. Early bird rights are used when you have a player under a two year contract for example. But you need that contract to end first. We will have full Bird Rights by the time Scola contract is up, in 2010.
For some reason I thought Scola's contract was up this season and was freaking out a little bit. I guess I had a brain fart.
other than scola, none of those players is a lock to return next season. more than likely the team lets von walk, unless the market depresses his value. while they like white, the jury is still out on what he will be. if he comes back, i think it would be as the replacement for von or as a long term project. like gerald green with a much better attitude. i'm not 100% sold on ron's return either, but in this market I think he can be had at a value <$10m per. even though he is more valuable than that, there probably wont be a lot of suitors. i think you need to do what it takes to keep scola. i love his game, attitude and work ethic. he is not a complete power forward though. probably mle+
Why do you guys worry about Scola? His contract expires next year and we should have enuf space to resign him.
I don't think Scola or Artest will get that much. Scola I think is looking at a 3yr for 18million, and Artest will get something in the 3yr/27 million range. The years may change, but I don't see Scola getting more than 7 per year, or Artest getting more than 10. Everyone wants to save their precious cap space for 2010. The only thing working in their favor is there is a lack of star power this year. Unfortunately they also have to deal with a bad economy. If I was their agents, I would recommend trying to take a one year deal with a player option for a second. There will be a bunch of teams under the cap in 2010, and teams are going to miss on a number of the stars and might overpay for a lesser player.
i think all of you guys are spending too much money on these players. if this were the price is right, i'd bid $1! lol also, why are we adding scola into this mix? HALF the team is a FA the same summer scola is - brooks, lowry, landry, hayes, scola, tmac, barry. lets worry about those guys next year. summer 09: Ron Artest - wants a raise but might settle for an extension. i dont see any team with $10M of cap space using it on ron. he made $7.4M this season. a 3 year extension with max 10% raises would look like $8.1M, $8.9M, and $9.8M. Von Wafer - making $797k this year. most similar scenario is chuck hayes. chuck was a summer league guy who made the team, then the rotation. he was signed for about $1.7M per season. von's contract might look very similar to chuck's. James White - white will be looking at rookie scale. similar to how the rockets approached von's contract. however, von was a summer league guy. white made the team for parts of this season. next season he will be looking for more than just the one year contract von was given. look for a contract like dorsey's. 2 years guaranteed with either player or team options after that. nothing more than $800-900K. in order to stay below the LT after these signings the rockets will need to cut salary. look for Brent Barry to get "Franchised." and by that i mean dealt to the grizz with a future pick to take his $2M off our books.
Same player. There isn't anything scola does better than gooden. Gooden was a starter on a team that went to the finals. Im not knocking scola, but paying scola more than mle money isn't it. He's a good player and all, but put him in he framework of similar players. If gooden was making 3m, no one would ever have problems with him. He's produced every place he's been and he's still younger.
Artest will sign a 1 year deal IMO. So, he can reap the benefits when a team doesnt sign Wade, LBJ, etc... in 2010
Way off IMO. 1. Artest - 3yrs - 8 million each 2. Scola - 3 yrs - full MLE 3. White - 2 yrs at the NBA minimum 4. Wafer - 3 yrs - 1.5 -2 million each
He won't reep the benfit from teams that don't sign those guys. The exconomy isn't going to dictate bigger money for him in 2010. He's an 8 million a year player honestly.
I am of the opinion that we shouldn't resign any of the guys you listed. We're going to need them all next season!
If you think Gooden is even similar to Scola in offense you are delusional. Gooden has a mid range JS, and one or two post moves, Scola moves on the post like no one, great passer, great cutter to the rim, and more midrange spots than Gooden. And i think this season he has been better than Gooden both with his defense and his rebounds.
Seth, take ur homer glasses off and look at reality. Gooden as a 21 yr old was doing what scola is doing as a 29 yr old. Both are good rebounders, good mid range shooters, scola plays harder but is not as atheletic. Scola is a terrible defender and gooden is avg at best. Scola has more post moves because he can't turn and rise above people. Scola has a lot of moves inside because he has to try to compensate getting off the ground. When you can make a move a jump over people, u don't need to get fancy. The game last week or so, gooden was abusing scola. Scola had a great game sunday. Both guys play off double teams and neither can score against quality defenders. If both were on the open market, they would get the same money.
Teams are reluctant to gamble on Artest for a long term. I can imagine if the Rockets offer a fair 3/4 year contract, he might just jump on it. Wafer is a bit of an enigma, but the Rockets did a good job re-signing Carl Landry, so they may just do something similar with Wafer (wait for an offer and match it). Luis is going to get some dough, but maybe not as much as you'd think considering we have another potent PF in Landry sitting right behind him. I love Scola, but we have a legitimate replacement for him. That being said, I could see a contract with $6-8 million per year in it. Fortunately, we'll have T-Mac's salary off the books by then, so we'll have the cash to spend. I don't care much about James White -- he won't take much to lock up for another year. Maybe $1 million, maybe even less especially since he hasn't really shown much in a game (aside from 3 TO's in 4 minutes).
