I was wondering with some of our players contracts expiring next season or the next, how much would it cost in your opinion would it cost to resign the following players?

    1. Ron Artest
    2. Luis Scola
    3. James White
    4. Von Wafer

    In my opinion at least:

    1. Ron Artest - 3 yrs - 12 million each
    2. Luis Scola - 3 yrs - 10 million each
    3. James White - 2 yrs - 1 million each
    4. Von Wafer - 3 yrs - 3 million each

why do we just wait and see what other teams offer them first. then we can decide if we wanna match/raise or let them leave.

Why? You think 12 mil a year for Artest, 10 million a year for Scola are pretty good deals.

Von is only making 750k this year, so at 3 mil a year that is also pretty good.

As of White, well he was out of league and is on a 10 day contact. At about 1 mil for two seaons is cheap for the Rox and his white time to develop.

    if it's up to me,

    ron - 3yrs 10 mils per
    scola - 5yrs full mle
white - idk (yet to see him develop)
    wafer - 3yrs 1.2-1.5 mils per

    in that ballpark.

You are in the right ballpark on Artest. Expand the years and lower the salary to about 8 mil and that covers Scola. Scola is probably a bit above MLE money. White likely won't be back and Wafer will be fortunate to double his 750k salary.

As for whether Artest and Scola are good deals, the answer is yes. Artest is a two way(scorer/defender) player who adds much needed toughness. Scola is a very cerebral player that has a non stop motor. He's about at his peak, but that's a very solid player.

The economy was bad last year and maggette got 11m per. Ron is worth at least 10m. Scola is a mle player. I say that because a guy like Drew Gooden is about the same maybe even a little better and he was making mle money. Wafer is a 2m player right now that's easily replaceable. White is too early.

Nobody in their right mind would say Gooden is about the same or even better compared to Scola.

Only contenders would want Artest long term. Contenders only have the MLE. So 8mil may do it.

Landry got 3mil therefore Wafer should get considerably less unless a European team comes calling in which case you really can't compete.

Scola I could see getting a hefty offer from a few teams.

Ron Artest won't get more than 10 million on the open market...

contending teams only got MLE, and rebuilding teams won't want a locker room bomb...

we should lock him up for less than 10 million per year.

well...towards scola...give him whatever he wants!!!

I'm sure glad portland got screwed by the Darius Miles deal. Could you imagine Portland with that much cap space?

Detroit has 20 million worth of cap space with Sheed and Iverson coming off the books. I can see Detroit going after Scola.

    In my opinion at least:

    1. Ron Artest - 4 + 1 - starting at 10 (with option)
    2. Luis Scola - 4 - starting at 8
    3. James White - 2 + 1 - starting at 1 (with option)
    4. Von Wafer - 2 + 1 - starting at 2.5 (with option)

I don't think it'll become a problem for dyral "money ball" morey to re-sign those guys. Ron's contracts expires by the end of this season and his contract is the first work for our organization to set down.

Ron Artest is among the "best 20 players in NBA" so it's not too excessive to give him a contract that brings him 12m per year. Ron actually deserves 12m/yr but he won't get such a contract this season, at least not from the rockets. considering the cheap owner and our team's salary, the most amount the rockets can afford for Ron is just 10m. Although our team won't offer him as much money as some other teams will, I'm sure Ron clearly knows a ring is more valuable than 2m dollars and will remain in the rockets this summer.

Scola will get more than 10m/yr in the summer of 10 IMHO. Actually Scola is well worth 10m/yr, but paying a player at market prize has never been the tradition of the rockets team except for tmac's case. Scola will get a higher yearly salary than artest's because his contracts expires in 10's summer when our team will clear up plenty of salary space, thanks to tmac's outrageous expiring contract.

Scola is a top PF in this league now. He's going to get big offers. We should match as reasonable as possible.
