You'd let $100 dictate the system you are going to buy 9 months from now? Save up a quarter a day until then and you'll have that PS3 instead. Buy the system that you want. The PS3 is worth it.
More info: http://blog.wired.com/games/2009/03/february-2009s.html Wow...I figured SO4 would have been in the top 10 360 games, but it looks like it really bombed. It did release near the end of the month and had somewhat mixed reviews (about on par with SO3 though), but SO3 did do 600K+ in the US. Disappointed LBP is not in the top 10 PS3 games...and that MK vs DC (still) is. BTW, if anyone is curious, I can post some numbers from Japan from the last few weeks. SO4, Yakuza 3, RE5, SFIV, etc.
Ah. Yeah, I wouldn't know about those. I played and beat GOW1, and played 2. They are great action games, no doubt. I'm just saying I can understand how some people would pass over them as the 'greatest of all time'. I wouldn't rank them up there either. Still, Sony made a mistake not having a GOW ready to go early for the PS3. It could have helped them tremendously. But then again Sony made a lot of mistakes early in this gen, and that's how it goes in video games - when you screw up early, it's hard to recover.
I never really understood why people say this is a mistake, particularly a big one. Most it could have done IMO was improve sales maybe a year earlier than what is happening (2008 release vs 2009/2010 release). But you'd miss out on all the profit of GoW II, not to mention that it was probably still a little uncertain how big of a franchise GoW would be during that time.
GOWII would have been great with the PS3 and may have lead some people to buy it sooner i.e. me. I can also see what RC is saying. If they had they definitely wouldn't have sold as many copies of the game. Plus he's right that its going to help in the long run. That one will be a system mover. By how much I don't know, but I'm sure there will be a spike in sales. Also once the ICO team (Shadow of the Collossus) come out with their hush hush project, probably a sequel, that will move more for the hardcore guys. I think we're already starting to see the better exclusives come out on the PS3, but poor marketing and the timing with the economy is hurting them.
Things do seem to be shifting that way, huh? Never thought I'd see the day... but I think the balance of power may have shifted with the release of Killzone 2.
Yeah, also looking at the future releases it doesn't seem close. The only thing on the radar for the Red Ring machine seems to be the Halo spinoff as far as exclusives go. Speaking of KZ2. How is that thing? I haven't got it yet and haven't been online in a while, but will be getting back on soon. After I beat the single player I will be honing my skills online. You been playing it?
IMO, PS3 has always had a great selection of exclusives, and it is one of their advantages, especially as early 360 exclusive are going multiplatform. PS3 exclusives are usually Sony-developed, and Sony has a huge advantage there. But these exclusives for the most part have done relatively little to help the PS3 in the past, although partly due to poor marketing (and other things) IMO. For the most part, I don't think it alone will really help it shift the balance of power, at least in the US (I think the US rankings are pretty much set in stone, although PS3 might close the gap a bit).
Yeah, thats whats sad. I hate to say it, but people are dumb. They'll believe anything if you make it pretty and colorful. Kind of hit on this in the Texans forum about QBs. They're are still people who believe the catalog and catalog outlook on the 360 is better. Saying that, I think if Sony had any type of price cut it would help. It could be something as small as $50 and people would take notice. I'd almost be willing to bet that dropping it by $20 and advertising it as "now only..." would move it. All the masses would need to see is that it is cheaper. Whoever is in charge of marketing should be moved to another dept.
I've only played the demo, and then played the actual game for maybe an hour at a friend's place. Good stuff... very good stuff. The graphics are so good that it makes everything else look last-gen by comparison. I'm also surprised that no one really thought of a cover system where you can't see around corners by magic until now. I'm just waiting on finishing up a few games I'm playing right now before I go out and buy it... almost done with Gears of War 2 and Trauma Center: New Blood. Once I finish those I'll only have Lost Odyssey left that I'm currently playing, so at that point I think I'll pick it up... Ouch. That was a good burn.
EDIT: Eh, the exclusives thing is too subjective for the most part, especially when the two systems are so similar in a lot of ways. Each userbase is going to feel that the titles are of a better quality. If not GOW, then any of the other big name exclusives. If you are going to try and push that high a price of a system out the door, you have to have a reason for people to bite. Instead, Sony seemed to assume that people would just buy because it had the word Playstation on it, which was clearly a mistake after the horrid launch. The price was a huge obstacle to overcome no matter what, but not having the games to draw folks in is certainly not going to make it easier. Oh, come on. The 'everyone else but me is dumb' excuse is just console wars fodder. To think that every body just is blind because they are using the console that you did not is inane.
I'm not just saying me. Common belief is still that there are not a lot of good games for the PS3. Am I wrong? Not talking hardcore gamers, mainstream. 360 is all the rage as the PS2 once was. IMO the PS3 is a better system. The games coming out for 360, the only ones recently or somewhat in the near future that grab my attention are the Halo spinoff and Gears of War 2. If the next Knights of the Old Republic is exclusive, you can throw that in as well. For the PS3, I'm loving LBP and Resistance 2 is pretty good. Haven't got to KZ2 yet, but will soon. GOWIII is on the horizon as are the FF games. One of those are exclusive. There's also the sequel to Shadow of the Collossus that should be out at some point in the near future. Plus the Insomniac guys are working on a new game which, given their track record, should be huge. Lastly Uncharted 2.
List wars is fine and all, you could have XBOX only guys come in and list plenty of things they'd rather have. That's the point. There's plenty of good reasons to prefer one console over the other. Thinking that everyone else is just 'fooled' and you aren't is not one of them.
I'm not just talking about games when I say people are dumb. It does factor in though. Would you say that the common belief is that 360 has far better games? Do you agree with that statement? Check out some of the polls on G4tv.com sometime and you'll see what I'm talking about.
So you think more people prefer or want the 360 because they are dumb? And if you are using G4TV internet fanboy posting as your basis for the whole of the userbase that might be part of the problem.
Didn't say that. Both systems have their merits and to each his or her own. What I am saying is, for the third time, is that common perception is there aren't a lot of good games for the PS3. G4 is just a portion of this. I've talked to people looking into getting a new system and start to use that belief as a factor in their decision. If you've been paying attention, you'd see that's far from the case. Perception can be reality and history is written by the winners. As of right now, Microsoft is winning. Some of it is due to Sony's marketing. Some due to 360 coming out first. It is what it is. If I didn't have my PS3 and had to choose, which is what I did when I bought it, I'd still go with the PS3. The dumb thing applies to many different facets of life. You ask an average NBA fan what they think are the standings right now for the West and I'd bet the Rockets would be on their list somewhere around 6 or 7 behind New Orleans and Utah. Sorry, but this to me is dumb. Maybe I'd be better off saying ignorant or mislead. That work?
And that's all I am saying. Sure some people may believe that one system has a better library than the other. But guess what...so do you. Maybe that common perception is simply because more people have the opinion opposite of you. It doesn't make you or them more wrong (or 'dumb'). Though, personally, I think a lot of the forums on the sites like IGN and G4 are just fanboy wars anyway and should be taken with a grain of salt overall.
