It is also about the timing in the season. You don't want Yao to shoot 20 times every game for 82 games, he will be worn out by playoff. So, now is a great time for him to start dominating, with less than 20 games to go.

It's not a big deal if Yao doesn't get 15+ shots in a regular season game especially against Lottery teams. Yao does need to get 15+ shots against the Spurs, Lakers, Jazz, Nuggets, Hornets, etc.. The contenders... We don't want Yao tired from playing against teams we should easily crush. We want Yao to conserve his energy for the playoffs and dominate there. I hope we can see Yao being more assertive against the Spurs on Sunday and against the Jazz on Tuesday. We need Yao to get 20/10 games against both of them if we want to win. Go Rockets....
I saw a lot hesitation in recent games both from Yao and the guards. That gave the time for the defenders to read Rockets move and often forced us to make bad shots. With Yao being more aggressive and assertive, the perimeter guys would probably have better ball movements and more open shots too.
Funny on the day Adelman asks Yao to play selfishly and to demand the ball he goes 6/16 against a team of scrubs. Not sure if it's good for any team to have have one guy just jacking up shots, balanced scoring wins games not Yao taking contested shots outside his comfort zone. This ''Yao should demand the ball'' is a work in progress.
I don't think you can ask Yao to demand the ball, I think Adelman has to ask his teammates to demand the ball to Yao, to who ever the closest entry passer is. Yao is just too unselfish of player to demand the ball like crazy. I really don't even think he's capable of putting up 20+ shots and being able to defend and rebound on the other end as well. He's not conditioned well enough. I say next season is when we should start making Yao demand the ball more often. We need to conserve Yao's energy for the post-season not the regular season. The post-season is when everybody's record is 0-0. Yao needs to dominate then, just like Tim Duncan does every year.
demanding the ball doesn't necessarily mean shooting it. but i'd take 6-16 any day. it's better imo than say 7-9 at this point. like you said, it's a work in progress. with about a dozen of games remaining, now it's the best time for yao to start building the right mentality.
Agreed completely and you put in excellent points. When Yao gets the double, he draws the defense's attention completely. They tend to worry when they are going to double him and how they are going to double team him. Yao is the only player on the Rockets that defense's focuses on. Yao is a pretty good passer for a big guy, so he can take one dribble, see the double team and pass it to a cutter or shooter and then their is an easy point right there. Yao needs touches, he doesn't always have to score the ball, just like Tim Duncan.
