So Obama used the Special Olympians as a joke. That is truly pathetic, picking on some of the weakest members of society.

A gentleman is somebody who never hurts somebody else's feelings unintentionally...

That actually sound more insulting than what Obama said. The said thing is that one line is taking away from the important part of the interview where he explains the situation of AIG.

I am definitely no fan of Obama, but I really don;t see the big deal in this. It was an innocent mistake and something anyone would say.

What's the big diffrence between reading a speech from a piece of paper vs reading it from a teleprompter? I guess the fringe part of the right are insinuating that you're only competent if you're reading from a piece of paper? is it Obama fault that McCain couldn't read his prepared speeches correctly or with conviction?

It was an insensitive thing to say...but ironically, Obama was trying to be humble by putting down his own bowling skills. It's great that he apologized right away.

Frankly, I don't know what he is doing on Jay Leno anyway. The campaign is over. I've seen him doing the NCAA bracket - ok fine, but now, he's on Leno? JUst feel it's a bit inappropriate considering what's going on.

As for the remark, i think it is more a reflection of society than anything else. People just use the special olympics that way. Comments about the short bus and so on.

Yes, it's insensitive. But big deal. Obviously he's not trying to put down mentally handicapped kids. I mean, how many times do we say to each other, "You're acting like a r****d" or that's r****ded, or did you get off the short bus this morning?

You've got to be kidding me. Barack can do no wrong in your mind. The comment was a big deal to anybody with even a modest amount of decency. You don't make fun of Special Olympians. That is pathetic.

you've never called someone a r****d in your adult life? Or said, "that's r****ded". Or anything? never, once? Please.

And I just criticized him in the post. Maybe you should try reading the whole thing first.

As I said, the campaign is over. People are in real trouble. This stuff is fine when we aren't in a crisis, but he needs to be showing people he's hard at work for them. Not on Jay Leno like a celebrity.

What gets me is the crowd that is always upset at the media. Suddenly it went from "Why is the media making the financial crisis worse by talking about it all the time? Show something else!" to "Why is the media talking about Obama filling out a basketball bracket and joking about bowling? He should be worrying about the financial crisis! Show the financial crisis!"

This man is supposed to be a statesman for goodness sake.

I wonder what the backlash would have been if Bush had made this type of comment.......oh wait we would still be hearing about it.

But the gaffes just tkeep on coming....

Leave the man alone. It's all just a part of him keeping his celebrity street cred.

This I agree with. The Liberal "outrage" would have been extensive.

There's a difference between using the adjective "r****ded" (which Obama did not do) and making fun of how poorly Special Olympians bowl (which he did do). I would hope that you could see the error in your messiah's ways

You're probably right. And it would have been petty and partisan if it was done in the same context (attempting to make a self-deprecating joke during a frivolous interview) and the Bush administration apologized immediately afterward.

I view this much the same way. Actually, my standards for Obama are higher, so this bothers me more than it would if Bush did the same thing. It's clear that his intentions were not to poke fun at the Special Olympics, but the apology was definitely warranted.

no, calling someone r****ded is exactly the same thing. you are basically saying they belong in the special olympics.

i think you have turned obama into the devil, and anyone who doesn't think obama is the devil must think he is a messiah.

typical bushie, always see things in absolute. bigtexx, get over it. not everyone who disagrees with you is a blind liberal. maybe you should look closer at home about the blind conservative movement.
