Well Jerry West is in charge now, and everyone knows that that means that he's gonna shake things up in Memphis, now i thought to myself how is the best way that he can impove his young team. One of the most important things that a team needs other than the obvious superstar, is chemistry. So what is tha fastest way he can impove the team and chemistry and superstar status, get the 2000 NCAA champoionship core back together.
They already have Battier. J Williams, Boozer, and Dunleavy(maybe) are going to be in the draft. So i think they might make that move.
So here is how we fit in. We trade our 5th to them for players and we agree to give them our our 15th this year to full fill obligation.
    1. They'll probably get a high enough pick, to get J Will.
    2. So that they can get Dunleavy we trade our #5( Inkow that might be kinda high for Mike, but many are predicting him going that high, and given his close freindship with Battier, it might not be a longshot) along with Rice, Collier and Cato, for L Wright(C), S Swift(C-F), A Fotsis(F), and a 2nd rounder. All three of these guys will fill our Big guy situation and since they have already played at the NBA level so it's not as much of a gamble, and they are pretty decent players.
    3. With the 15th pick they select Boozer.

Conclusion: We get Bigger and get slightly more seasoned players, and they get a nice core of players that already have experience playing together. It might be a long shot, but it would be nice to see,for both teams.

That still doesn't solve our SF problem.

No way West will take on Rice. And that deal could only work if we got Pau Gasol. Our 2 picks have to give us at least one more rebuilding piece. Period.

And, besides, if we could get Dunleavy with the #5, WE'D take him. And then we could still get 1 of Tskitishvili, Butler, Hilario, Marcus or Stoudamire. 2 rebuilding pieces to build for the future or good trading chits.

This is just not a good deal for the Rockets. We give away our high first round picks this year, a decent center, true, we unload Rice, but only get back medioce role players. WHY would Houston ever do this? I can certainly see it from Memphis' point of view, but not Houston's.

Michigan State won in 2000... So they must be hard after Mateen Cleaves, and Mo Pete.

    :p

Don't forget that this scenario also means that we would fulfill our obligation to Memphis. It would be an ok deal imo.

Cue, why would the Rockets even consider this for half a second? We would lose our first rounders, two starters and a backup big man for Swift (a draft day #2-pick bust who can't make the starting lineup for a 20-game winning team); Wright (a fragile, injury-prone backup center); and Fotsisname (a guy the Rockets could pick up for free when he gets cut by the powerhouse Grizzlies). If you don't live in Memphis now, are you planning to move there?

Now, I apologize for sounding so harsh, but please think how the Rockets can be bettered -- not battered -- with a trade.

Dumb, Dumb trade proposal. There is no way we should trade our #5 pick at any cost!! A top 5 pick gives us a chance to get a very good or even great player that we need. A chance at Dunleavy alone on OUR team would outweigh Wright and Swift....2 undersized players at their respective positions.

Fulfilling our draft pick obligation with the Grizz with our #15 pick isn't a bad idea, unless we can realistically get an impact player or a steal, in which case we NEED to keep it. However, who's to say we even have to give the Grizz our pick next year in the first place? What if we improve drastically and don't even get a lotto selection next year?

The Griz still get our pick, but let's worry about that next year. The #15 this year looks better than anything in that range for next year. And, besides, like you just stated, what if we dramatically improve -- and that's very, very possible -- and have a pick in the 20s next year. They can have our pick while we figure out how to acquire a better pick -- if we need one at all!
