Yao needs to learn how to box out, if he gets fronted, use his arms, bend his knees box the other guy out, get a pass from the top of the key and jam it down!!! but then again... he cant, oh well... I love yao ming...
They wanted McDyess to front him, but Yao sealed him off and he scored on him. Just that way it was. McDyess http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Rockets_Survive_Scrappy_Piston-305517-34.html
The selfish guards (Ron, AB) don't feed the balls to Yao even he was open and demands balls in the past. The coach should bench the selfish guards instead of criticizing Yao.
Yeh that's what Yao should do when guarded by guys that size. No one that small should be able to front him. He should just use his frame and his arms to keep them on his back. He did that for the most part, but I can remember Mcdyess getting in front of him on one important possesion.
What Yao should say: "You see this block of space beside the lane? That's my freakin' space. Get the eff out of my space. I own that block. You don't come near my space without getting permission from me. If you're behind me and I get the ball in my space, you're at my mercy sucka!"
Where have we heard this before? This being going on for years. Yao will never grow out of this mentality. Yao have this "assertive" mentality when he's leading the chinese team. But he's too damn humble in the NBA. That's one thing I HATE about Yao. When I see him scoring in bunches. He starts to become passive and passes out to his teammates like he's thinking too much about him being too greedy.
I think he just understands that in order to win consistantly, he has to spread it around and other players have to contribute offensively. There aren't too many good teams that have one dominant low post scorer. Most good teams have 2 or 3 really good players and a bunch of guys who can contribute when their number is called. Look at the celtics. Garnet can be dominant on offense at times, but he plays very unselfish basketball and he knows he is only as good as his team mates. He contributes on offense but he doesn't dominate. He focuses alot on the defensive end as well. Same goes for Duncan and the spurs.
funny shane should be talking. he has been crap lately... he has turned in to a Rybo.. . .hopefully he finds his shot ..
I think the real issue for Adelman is, when Yao has it going like he did the last few games, making every shot he throws up, then he must be more assertive. Late in games, when Yao is playing well and the defense is playing him one on one, he has to yell for the ball and take it to the other team. Yao can be a dominant force, especially when he's being played one on one, and he must take advantage of the opportunities he is given in those situations. The late game part of it is important also, he can be passive early looking to get others involved, but when the clock is winding down, late in games, he should be calling for the ball and attacking the defense and force them to adjust to him, and if he is doubled, fine, find the open man, but otherwise he needs to do his thing. I love how unselfish Yao is, he's good a passing out of the post, but hopefully one day he will learn to be selfish late in games b/c he is the most efficient offensive option the team has. And, we all want to see Yao yelling, "You can't f...ing stop me!"
"I know what I can do in the post.” Man!! I love to hear thaT... Can't wait to see what he playss like tonight!
hopefully a lot better than he's playing now.. shane needs to step up... teams are sagging off of him cause he cant SHOOOT!
To be a volume shooter you have to have no conscience. Guys like Kevin Durant can be 0-23 and still jack up shots like nothing. Yao is the type that feels guilty if he misses a couple or if he feels like he's ball hogging. I don't think it's something Yao can change.
In the 2006-07 season, when he was averaging 25 points, Yao was taking 15.4 shots and 8.9 free throws per game. (Of course, that potentially dominant season was cut short.) This season, he's averaging 13.3 shots and 6 free throws, and averaging a little less than 20 points per game. Just throwing that out there.
and it shouldnt. Why shold yao pattern his game after a player like kevin durant. He should pattern his game after guys like Duncan, Garnett, etc.
I think he did alot of that damage when mcgrady was out and yao was basically the only offensive option we had. He had to take that many shots. I dont think it led to many wins.
I think Yao does not want to upset his teammates by taking too many shots....that's why he take break whenever he feels he scored enough. He does not understand that there is no such thing as scoring too much and he does not understand what it means to stay hunger and he does not understand or realize that he is better than everyone on the team. He does not set himself above others...THIS IS a major reason why he is passive and a team player and defer to others because he does not realize his true potential.
I think Yao gets the message, and is being more aggressive, but he is also extremely intelligent, he has made massive strides in getting a bit more selfish, I like the way he is playing now. If Rick wants him to demand the ball a bit more, I think Rick needs to remind him of that when other teams are not double teaming him. Yao is such a great TEAM player, and sometimes what is good for the team, is him scoring....a LOT ! DD
Agreed, as Shane mentioned about him earlier. He is a guy who cares more about his teammates than he does about himself. It's almost impossible to change Yao into a selfish player. He's like the Chris Paul or LeBron James for Centers. He can clearly score and score anytime he wants, but he would rather have his teammates happy. I like that about Yao, but it's time for him to dominate because he has no star playing aside him anymore. I hope he can bring it during the playoffs though. Then those haters will clearly go away. Go Rockets!
