I can't think of many, but guys like Daryl Kyle and Jason Collier kinda hits hard b/c they were pro athletes that died while they were still young.

Payne Stewart was a sad story as well.

I can't imagine any celebrity death bothering as much as Phil Hartman's did. The guy was just gold in everything he did. Even crap comedies starring Sinbad, Phil gave it his all and elevated the material as much as was possible with his own responsibilities. On top of that, by all accounts I can find he was a great guy, easy to get along with and devoid of the inflated ego that so many Hollywood celebrities seemed to have. The fact that, to this day, you have other comedians like Jon Lovitz that go out of their way to defend his name when someone is disrespectful also says something about the lasting impression he left on anyone with which he had a friendship.

His biggest mistake, unfortunately, was his choice of wife and the fact that he stuck with her probably longer than he should have. Then that ****ing selfish **** b**** took him away from us and to this day when I think about it too much it gets me angry enough that I think I might punch her in the face if she were standing in front of me right now. The man was a treasure, and he was taken away.

Gotta be Phil, I'm a huge fan of the Simpsons and Newsradio.

It sucked then, and it sucks now.

He would have been Zapp Branigan in Futurama too, and that character already kicked ass.

I cannot think of any celebrity death that has bothered me on any personal level. Am I a cold-hearted b*stard? Usually, when my wife tells me so-and-so died, I say, "How many other people died today that no one bothered reporting about?"

I had just gotten into Mitch Hedberg a few months before he passed.

Even though he had a posthumous CD release, it's still strange to think "that's it. no more new Hedberg jokes."

    Odd.

    - Phil Hartman
    - Chris Farley
    - Brad Nowell (Sublime...who knows where they were going after the last album, but they were going to be huge)
    - Shannon Hoon (Blind Melon...Soup was such a fantastic album. They would be up there on the festival circuit today if he was still alive)
    - Payne Stewart (watching that happen on tv was just heartbreaking)

Keith Moon and John Entwistle. The Who was and always will be my favorite band.

John Lennon. Similar reason above, but also for the senseless nature of it.

Joe Strummer from The Clash and Joey Ramone. Warren Zevon too.

I find this a great topic, oddly.

    Yep. Speaking of comedic genius.

And Cobain. And Elliott Smith. David Foster Wallace. Hunter Thompson.

Vonnegut, even if it was old age.

Though all my heroes appear to be suicidal / heroin addicts, each of these still caught me.

I felt kinda empty when Kurt Cobain committed suicide. Boy bands started taking over after his death.

Same for me, and yes you are a cold hearted b*stard :D

I have exaclty the same, it never bothered me on a personal level when a celebrity died. I only get anoyed when the death of a celebrity gets so much attention when other more important things are ignored in the news (see the death of Princes Diana). It is anoying when the entire front page of a newspaper is focussed on the death of some singer, and the real news (like accidents that took the life of thousends in China) is put on page 16.

    Nobody really...

Maybe John Ritter...I really liked him.

If it was any Rockets player, it would affect me since I LIVE for the team! :)

I don't think I have ever had one shock me, though many have been sad. In retrospect, John Lennon, but I was too young to know who he was at the time. I do think the world might be a tad different and better had he not been murdered. Something about the beginning of the Reagan Era coupled with John Lennon's death a month prior... very Empire Strikes Back in terms of my value system.

I miss Mitch Hedberg too, he was incredible.

Darryl Kile - He was the nicest athlete I ever met, and when he died, it was like a punch to the gut.
