Ron is that type of player, just like it would not help if you try to tame a wild horse.

artest is great on defense, but lately (aside from the NO game) he's fg% is giving me rafer flashbacks. he does too much of that last minute dribble off-balance shot. when they're not falling, he needs to pass it. kobe makes these, but artest is no kobe on the offense.

overall though, he's the best defender on the team and it would be a liability to have on the bench.

we all know artest can go off the reservation when it comes to offense, but he's always been that way. not that that makes it alright, but you're either going to never play him or put up with this weakness to get his strengths.

there was really only once (this game at least) that he took a shot when he should have gone to yao. as adelman even pointed out in the post game, the other time yao was standing at the 3 point line trying to set a pick instead of getting in the post. that was on yao. the final play, adelman drew it up horribly and artest did the only thing he could.

Artest is not a team player, if Tmac was healthy I'd want him as a 6th man and he shouldn't be in the game in the final minutes, unless it was for only defense or being a spotup shooter like battier.

he was our best player coming into the season. basically his best player turned into a scrub and then missed the second half of the season.

Hmmm. When we can't get the ball to Yao, I like it that Artest is there to create on the other side of the court.

He is the second option. We just need to be better about getting our first option sometimes. But I like it that he is our second option.

And I say Ron will hit a huge shot, and many of them in the playoffs. ARtest can get hot in the crunch, and he can dominate. Any dominant player can also look bad when they miss.

You have to take both the positives and negatives with Ron. He has always had a tendency to freelance on offense and put up bad shots, that's just who Ron Artest is as a basketball player. I don't know why you have to create this thread after a win in which I thought Ron played an important part. He played great defense on Prince (4-17) all night and made some key plays in overtime.
Why bench Ron Artest for playing like Ron Artest always had?

    It's really simple:

If the Rockets want to win ANY GAME or have ANY CHANCE of winning any game, all they have to do is feed Yao every single possession...seriously EVERY SINGLE POSSESSION!! Unless the other team front him or prevent you from going to Yao, but if they don't and you don't go to Yao? Then you're losing your chances or wasting your chances. So for this Rockets team to win, it's not a matter of playing hard, it's a matter of how willing they're going to pass the DAMM BALL every time to Yao inside!! Of course, there are certain players (like Artest) at times want to be the hero and probably tired of seeing Yao getting the ball inside all the time. This is the time when the Rockets can lose their edge.

he doesn't necessary have to pass it to yao, but he'll try to push against two defenders and force up a shot... or awkwardly dribble and try a kobeish off balance shot. they were falling in the NO game, but most of the time they don't. you have to admit, he goes iso and leaves other rockets standing... a tad too much sometimes.

and i agree, his strengths outweighs his weakness.

I realize you probably dont realize this, but this thread was created by me during the game...after Ron forced a shot close to the end of regulation when everyone in the building from players, coaches, fans to the dude in the Clutch mascot suit was screaming at him to pass the ball to Yao...who at the time was chillingly Hakeemish.

So...yea. Even still...it's an issue. Remember, we lost against the Lake Show...for the exact same reason.

i completely agree. i'm just saying he's been doing it for about a decade now so at this point he is what he is. he's going to force some ugly shots. he'll hit a couple, miss a lot. and then he'll do some nice things on offense, couple drives, couple 3's, play some good defense, take some stupid gambles on defense that hurt you. get some key steals that help you. you're getting all of these with artest so you just have to accept it or keep him on the bench all game, which isn't really an option.
