Talking of Wafer made me think of Strawberry. Rockets picked Wafer and left Strawberry in the cold. I think the dude is in italy now.
Times sure have changed. I almost forgot about Strawberry but in the summer almost everyone myself included wanted Strawberry over Wafer. Hell nobody even knew who Wafer was. He was infamous because of the posterization by Snyder when Wafer was on the Lakers.
Agreed. He has potential, definite potential to be a great player. He's one of the few players we have that put any kind of pressure on the opposing team's defense and he keeps things moving. Impressive. More Wafer.
That Mike Harris cameo reminded me of both Strawberry and Mike Harris. I'd definitely want those two guys back once we get the roster spots. Btw who was that Colorado guy who drafted him? It looks like he has an eye for talent, getting both Harris and Wafer. Rox should pirate him away and put him in their scouting staff
I'm just hoping he continues to progress - the 5 assists were a NICE addition to his game. Instant offense is good, but turning into an all-around player will make him a valuable asset to our team for years to come. One of my favorite plays from last night's game was the fast break where Lowrey pulled up and passed the ball to the trailing Wafer behind the 3-pt line. Instead of taking the shot, Wafer went to the higher % play - the streaking (came in a quick as a bullet ) Landry for the slam. It showed great court awareness. If he continues to mature like this he'll be something special. -Humer
The better points with Wafer are: - His attitude, intensity and fierceness added to a great physical tools for this game. - The fact that he's solid in defense too, and has a sense of what's to play a good defense. Not very common in young people with his potential. - He seems like a humble and hard working guy, with long room for improvment.
How good/bad is his defense really? One of the knocks against him is his lack of defense. However, in the games I've seen him the defense isn't that bad. It's not stellar, but it's shown improvement. I don't think he's a defensive liability like others on our team (I'm looking at you Barry). Agree/disagree? -Humer
He's not a defensive liability. I think he really has a very good defensive potential. I've seen him defending very good on 1on1 against very good players, he really has a GREAT body to play basketball, and great attitude. He only needs to be smarter, get experience and knowledge of the game.
At first I thought Wafer was an inconsistent bum. He reminded me of Stromile Swift in a SG Body. (This was preseason) He has really grown on me though.
I think Von is the most exciting Rockets player to watch along with Kyle Lowry. Just for his sheer intensity and explosion of energy, its like he lights a fire underneath the asses of the rest of the team whenever he comes off the bench and when they need it most.
Not to take anything away from my man Landry, he's awesome too, but Wafer is just a bit more explosive. The dude is just in a league of his own. His energy and intensity, I don't think I seen anything like it. Like Superman or the Energizer bunny, he keep going and going.
I was one of those guys that wanted Strawberry. He really hustled defensively for the suns and reports were that he was really working on his shot. Wafer had shown nothing but good summer leagues and couldn't play point, our position of weakness. I was completely wrong. And now that we got Lowry, who I was always impressed with, I'm glad we didn't waste the roster spot. Wafer deserves to be a candidate for most improved player. Hard to believe he's a four year veteran and younger than Brooks.
we already have an upgraded version of mike harris which is landry, landry is way better then harris.
I love the guy, hes my favorite Rocket to watch. Does anybody know wat our win/loss record was wen he was a starter?
