Go shoot yourself in the leg and see if you can play any sports. This isnt about basketball or you cant look at it from a basketball view or sports view in general. We're talking about somone's life here.

Thankfully, the physical damage is not great.

Hopefully this does not have any significant mental effect on Carl for the long-term.

I was extremely near the shooting at my school (NIU) - I was in the classroom right next door and left 3 minutes before it happened. Some of the people in that classroom are still receiving counseling today. People can say all they like, "I would have ran at the shooter and saved everyone" blah blah blah - but my point is that it is extremely scary and and life-scarring to have a gun pointed at you, especially by someone who wants to do you harm. If I had taken three more minutes to finish my test, I am pretty sure it would have taken me a much much longer time to move forward from it.

I think he's shocked at the randomness of the cause, not the consequences of it.

OMG, I hope Landry will recover soon and the shot injury will not have any effects on his game. Would it be possible that someone wanted to take out one of the best PER player of the Rockets?

It might not be as shocking to you, but it's pretty shocking to most of us reading.

wow, I hope he recovers quickly and that he and the other rockets just head home after night games (especially one that was out of town and flying in later).

And if he lives in a crap area--please move your azz somewhere safer in Katy or S. Land and stop staying out late

the rockets doctors said it was just a flesh wound :( keywords being rockets doctors, if you convert their time measurements into regular people time measurement it goes from 1 to 3 weeks to hopefully back before the all star break next year

in all seriousness im glad carls okay, i hope whoever those two guys are that shot him get drunk and give each other aids

    [conspiracy theory]

Rockets. NBA. Gambling. Organized crime. The mafia has been putting the squeeze on the Rockets. The Rockets lately have been ignoring the mob's demands, and this attempted hit on Landry's life must be one of their latest threats. They want to scare the Rockets into playing their way.

    Exhibit 1: Tim Donaghy
Exhibit 2: Rockets losing large leads

Cause of this is point spreading. Have you noticed in some games that certain players have played horrible? And it's not because of anything done by the other team. Follow that train of thought...

Exhibit 3: Rockets' injuries besides McGrady's

Let's just say they're not real injuries. Now follow that train of thought also...

    Exhibit 4: Tracy McGrady

We all know that the Rockets are championship contenders, especially with Tracy McGrady, but they have lost certain games that they should not have lost this year.

This whole drama with Tracy McGrady. What if there is something more to it? Maybe McGrady isn't really injured at all. Maybe it is a mental thing. Maybe a mental thing like somebody threatening his life if he doesn't do what they (the mafia) say. McGrady couldn't handle the pressure and threats any more, so he takes himself out of this season totally by faking the microfracture surgery.

Conclusion: The Rockets initially follow the mafia's demand, but recently have ignored them. Result is Landry gets shot at. Hmm...more to come?

    [/conspiracy theory]

    ;)
This would make a great novel. lol.
Seriously, I hope Landry recovers from this physically and mentally. It was a traumatic experience, and it's scary what happened to him.
    GO ROCKETS!
Championship this year, baby! Believe it.

im shocked because it happened to landry. but not shocked that it happened in general. anyone born in the 70's and later shouldnt be shocked at a car jacking or attempted robbery.

honda civic vs. a suv... still trying to comprehend how the civic won. he prolly drives an escalade or hummer too.

    SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT INFO:

I was searching around trying to find out if anyone knew who the woman was or her relation to Landry and i found KHOU's story. IT's actually different from what they reported on TV and what other stations are reporting. Well not different, but more detailed:

At that point, Landry told police that he and his friend got out of his SUV, and the suspects fired two shots. Landry said he and the woman took off running – so fast the athlete actually ran out of his sandals. The suspects reportedly pursued them for a while, then abruptly turned around and fled on foot, abandoning their car at the scene.

"We heard a bang, we heard some shotgun noise so we came downstairs," said Aine Kirchner who lives in a townhome near the crash scene. Kirchner said she found the crashed cars, a man's empty sandals and blood in the street -- but no sign of any victims.

So it appears i was wrong when i said landry was out of the car when they got rear ended by the car. Seems like he was still inside and both he and the woman ran. So that clears up what she was doing this whole time and why she wasn't hurt. Also, looks like they didn't really chase him around much. Landry and the girl probably just didnt want to go back to the scene and that may be why he was jumping a fence to try and reach someone for help. I think KHOU usually does their homework much better, so i believe is probably accurate. Looks like it could be a robbery gone wrong, they didnt expect Landry to run, tried to catch them quickly, realized they were in for a long chase, so they freaked and left ASAP.

    Have they interviewed Landry yet?

Also, do you guys think it would be appropriate to make a sign at the game "Thanks for taking a bullet for the team, Carl. Get well soon!" :D
