Lock if you feel its not worthy of its own thread, but my buddy who goes to University of New Mexico was telling me how they do their tickets for the NIT tournament and I thought it was a good idea. For instance, the higher tickets are usually $35-$60 and the cheap cheap seats are $5-$10... Well they are selling tickets for the tourny at either $15 or $20.... first come first serve. So you could pay $15 for the best seat in the house. I think this concept needs to be implemented into the NBA, especially those with teams who are good enough to sell out the arena.
Let's see... Les Alexander can sell lower bowl tickets for $300-$1,000 a game or he can sell all tickets at a flat rate first come first serve type of thing. Which do you think he's gonna choose???
I guess it don't matter. I recall back when the Allstar game was intown, it was embarrasing. So quiet. Best basketball players in the world infront of the fans and you could hear a pin drop. Rockets fans will always be quiet unless we're on a huge historical winning streak or in the playoffs. Why bring the screaming and yelling then, and not all season long?
I have to tell you, in all the years since the TC has been open this year it has been the loudest for regular season game at least in my very limited sample set, 5 games this year.
The biggest problem is the "clubs" above those seats - that's where half of those empty seats went to. The first come idea isn't that bad - I'd make a SRO section right behind the courtside seats along the length of the court. Let "rowdies" go nuts there. Evan
With any luck, the economic downturn will keep some of the corporate types out next season... the more businesses that are stressed or fail, the greater chance those seats decrease in cost and become available to average joes (at least the ones who haven't lost their job because the company they were working for went under... or the ones that were let go so the company could still afford the nice seats).
the team would be playing at the astroarena in no time... i'm sure it would be great for fans, but from a business standpoint the team wouldn't survive after some time, unless they kept the base price high, like $100 for any seat or something like that, but that wouldn't sell out. This would only work if yu kept the price low.
I'd imagine it would have the opposite effect. If a company can afford season ticktets, multiple seats in some cases, year after year, they probably will be doing ok right now. Now the average fan who is able to afford those expensive seats may be the one who has to passt up on it. So you may actually be seeing more corporate seats. They should have at least one non corporate game during the season. Have it be against some crap team and make the seats cheap all around. Hold "tryouts" for the whole lower section so fairweather fans don't scoop those seats up just because they're cheap. I'd like to see how the atmosphere would be in that game. Of course the competition might suck, but perhaps it'll still be packed at the end of a blowout.
So you want to turn the TC into Southwest Airlines? haha It's a decent idea if the Rockets weren't in existence to make money. So, any suggestions that don't yield potential for maximum profit for the Rockets organization will be ignored. I mean if you knew you could sell tickets for 1000 a pop, why would you do otherwise?
The problem is the average Joe cant afford to buy season tickets for club level because they go from $165 to way over $300... That's only 1 seat, so $165 times 2 seats is about $330 times 41 home games...That's about $13,530 and were talking about the 165 dollar club level seats the least expensive..... My girlfriends company has club level seats I wont put the companys name but they always seem to give her the trash games against the weak teams and I always tell my girl get em will can go and support the Rockets. Dont get me wrong I been to a few good games this yr though like against the Lakers recently.. But there is times when the company ask ppl to go and they all refuse unless it Lakers, Boston, Dallas, Spurs, Suns, Jazz, Cleveland and the tickets go to waste and to the trash.. Its so aggravating to see the club level so empty compared to other arenas I think I have the best solution to this..... They scan every ticket when you walk in right?? So they should know how many games these season ticket holders are actually attending correct?? So at the end of the season if the club level season ticket holders, which is mostly companies, are not attending atleast 85% of the games THEY SHOULD NOT SELL THEM SEASON TICKETS FOR THE NEXT YEAR or BETTER YET THEY CANT ATTEND THE PLAYOFFS IF THE ROCKETS MAKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Easy as that!! Let others purchase the tickets and they should give out a warning letting them know you must attend atleast 85% of the games or more oR else you cant renew them for new season.
Or just bring down upper level people to sit in the club level after halftime to occupy the open seats...
Except the Lakers ALWAYS sell out. I never understood why they dimmed the lights since it should clearly be the other way around.
I agree... Some companies are actually giving the tickets away for some people that are not really interested in watching a game... A lot of those tickets are going to waste... I wish I can snag one of those...
I know I was just joking about hiding the empty seats. I hate the dimmed lights myself since basketball isn't meant to be like watching a movie.
