Glad to know Landry will be fine. The problem for the team will be points in the paint off the bench. Deke and Hayes aren't going to become scoring dynamos anytime soon. D will be fine, though. Maybe we'll see our new addition to the team off the bench.

This is nothing to be joking about.

Something similar happened to me in the same area over a decade ago, and I wasn't driving a rolls royce. I moved to Los Angeles shortly after, and nothing like that ever happened to me there.

I know crime is up post-Katrina, but let's not pretend this stuff is somehow new. Houston has always been a rough place, and in my experience, the roughest of all the places I've ever lived.

Right now we have one of our most respected players hurt because he was shot in our freaking city. He was *SHOT*. Nevermind the physical trauma...it can seriously mess with a person's confidence and psyche for the rest of their life.

He wasn't drunk or high or stabbing someone in a club, or throwing someone out the window of a bar or some other irresponsible thing. We should all be very pissed off, and we should take care of our own.

I feel like we should pass the tip jar around and do something as a group to show our appreciation for the grit and hard work he's given us fans, and our hope for a speedy recovery. Houston is where I'm from. I'm ashamed of this reflecting on my hometown, and I want to show Carl (and the national media who will enjoy bashing us) who we are.

Someone should start a new thread with suggestions, and take the smart-ass jokes elsewhere. I'm not feeling terribly creative right now.

    Thanks.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT? Just signed in now and saw this. Needless to say, definitely glad he's alright and that it's just a "flesh wound". Ughhhh.....I hope they catch the vile scumbags responsible for this.

There has to be more to the story. Someone getting hit on the rear bumper then driving by and shooting shots at Landry sounds to fishy and just to random.

    Regardless get well soon Carl!

I'm pretty sure los angeles has similar areas, possibly worse, just like other cities do. I don't think it's fair to imply this city is any worse.

i agree man. you hear a lot of stories about how athletes get robbed, even home-invaded, but shot? it would be understandable if this was in a strip club at 4 AM, but Landry was just looking for something to eat. Landry is a very genuine nice guy.

You know, it shouldn't matter what car Landry drives. He's earned his money and he should be able to buy what he wants. If he happens to live near a bad area then, although it's unfortunate, he'll probably drive by there at some point. And, honestly, alot of out-of-towners don't even realize which areas are bad areas in Houston because a) they're not really that bad (compared to other major cities) and b) they don't look that bad (compared to other major cities).

that's nonsense. ESPN said he will be out for only for 1 to 2 weeks.

Dude, he just got shot. I'm pretty sure he could care less about a couple hundred bucks from a tip jar. Something tells me, money is not what he's thinking about at this moment. Nor will it help him in any way.
