No joke, I thought this thread was Giant Underwear Predator and I was going to post the traditional "more cushin for the pushin" line or some other "fatties need love too" comment.

Needless to say, actual content was a letdown.

I don't care if it's 2009. Yet another reason for me to never go into the ocean deeper than where I can see my own two feet.

I'm at work, so I can't post pics, but the first thing that came to my mind was the Super Troopers cop saying "MOTHER OF GOD".

I think Megalodon (prehistoric shark) was bigger than this, wasn't it?

Megalodon grew up to 18 meters, which trumps the Predator X, so you are correct.

Everything back in the day was bigger, although not scientifically proven, I believe it is because of the 'island dwarfism' effect. 1 big ass ocean = big big sea creatures, 1 big ass continent = big big land creatures... as the continents started to drift apart, splitting into smaller land masses, the creatures also dwarfed, same logic applied to the ocean, the big ass ocean got split into smaller sections, thus sea creature size diminished

My mind immediately went to this:

    Bloop
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloop

The Bloop is the name given to an ultra-low frequency underwater sound detected by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration several times during the summer of 1997. The source of the sound remains unknown.

    Analysis

The sound, traced to somewhere around 50° S 100° W (South American southwest coast), was detected repeatedly by the Equatorial Pacific Ocean autonomous hydrophone array, which uses U.S. Navy equipment originally designed to detect Soviet submarines. According to the NOAA description, it "rises rapidly in frequency over about one minute and was of sufficient amplitude to be heard on multiple sensors, at a range of over 5,000 km." According to scientists who have studied the phenomenon it matches the audio profile of a living creature but there is no known animal that could have produced the sound. If it is an animal, it would have to be, reportedly, much larger than even a Blue Whale, the largest known animal on the earth.[1]

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cloverfield first alerted me to whatever this "animal" this could be. I'm not sure we can even imagine the size of whatever produced this sound.

When I really think about it, the possibilities as to what types of animals are on the bottom of the extremely deep parts of the ocean are endless. We truly have no idea what is down there.
