Last night, Danny Ainge & Co brought up a great point about how the Nets are so tough in the East, mainly due to the style of play. As we all know, the Nets like to get out and run as much as possible, as do the Kings & Mavs.

The trend lately in the playoffs has been to walk it up and play half-court basketball. Historically, however, teams actually pushed the ball even more in the playoffs looking for opportunity baskets. Remember the Showtime-era Lakers and how they would trap on defense to generate turnovers and fuel the fastbreak.

When did the half-court game become the playoff strategy in the NBA?

When the Riley led Knick made it to the finals and again when the Riley led heat start making the playoffs. Those heat teams should have avg more point than what they did. They had a running pg,a moving ball handling 3 and a 4 and 5 man that could get up the floor, yet he always slowe the team down and called every play from the sideline.
