I would love if we could go back to calling it the Ballpark at Union Station or a variation like Union Sation Park, Union Station Field, or Union Station Stadium. But Baseball doesn't have a salary cap and we need money to compete. What about Bank of America Field?

I know what you mean. This pisses me off as well. However, I think I'm more angry with Major League Baseball as a whole than simply Drayton and his lack of money management skills. The fact that they are unable to address the problems that other pro sports leagues have managed to handle is just freakin' horrible.

you're absolutely right! it's funny..back in college me and a friend were talking about the future of baseball with another friend of mine...two of us (me included) said that there would eventually be retraction...literally folding teams up. the other guy thought we were nuts....but look what almost happened!! look what is likely to happen after this season!! amazing...can you imagine a league that just starts folding teams??? that's exactly what we're about to get in baseball. they need to get their crap together and stop tainting my favorite sport.

Yup. Both the owners and the Player's Union are incompetent. They don't even seem to have noticed the 5% drop in attendance this year. The players originally were anti-salary-cap and pro-revenue-sharing. Now that the owners put up a revenue-share proposal (they should have stood firm on the cap), the players are anti-revenue-share and don't believe there's a competitive balance problem.

I'm not sure who the MLBPA represents, but you'd think all the players on small market teams (the majority of players) would be pro-revenue-sharing so they'd actually have a freaking chance to win.

I still don't know what the benefits of contraction are. OK, great, you got rid of Montreal. How does that help Houston or Oakland or Kansas City compete against the Yankees?

Honestly, I'm amazed that they believe they can build this much bad will with fans and survive. I guess we'll always have baseball around. But, they could very well be relegated to minor-league status if they go on strike again. There are still thousands of people who refuse to watch baseball because of a lockout over 5 years ago.

They better get their heads out of their asses soon.

    Look at the other leagues:

NFL - Loyal fan base, strong collective bargaining agreement, good relations between players and owners, expansion

NBA - Slight slide in fan base, stable CBA, expanding minor leagues, strong world marketing program, diverse core of players

I'm no expert on the NHL so I won't weigh in there but MLB better be careful.

According to the Chronicle, we may have Minute Maid Stadium! They've apparently jumped into the mix now.

"We're having quite a slugfest hear at Minute Maid Park. The pitches must look like ripe, fresh Florida Oranges to these hitters today."
