Regardless how slow Yao is, or how slippery his hands are.. Agree or not, I think Yao is the best OFFENSIVE Center in the league and no one can stop him playing him 1on1. Aside from YAO, there are only 3 other players in the NBA who are unstoppable when they face 1on1 defense .. SO in my opinion, Yao belongs to a very elite group of players.... ANYWAYS .. MY MAIN REASON FOR WRITING THIS POST. We all knows that number of shots YAO takes is ridiculously low. In Crunch time he is unable to get the ball... is useless when defense FRONTS him .. Last time he took 20 shots was in November and so on ..... So we ALL have seen this Year after year, know that this is a major issue and wont be surprised that in the playoffs Yao will be a non factor in the 4 qtr as as either the other teams defense take him out or our Guards will stop passing him the ball ( for reasons no one understands why) There was a nice article in chronicle today about YAO and that he should get more touches http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl...kn/6308811.html .. But this article did not reveal anything new. Most of us on this board know that this has been a problem for years and will be a big issue come playoff time. Yet it seems there are simple solutions to get YAO more involved and get him more touches.. -Pass Yao the ball more.. -Practice passing the ball to YOA . -Fronting can be countered in many different way, a good example is this video that "thefan" posted today http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=164634 from the Bobcats game. -weak side double teaming can be countered by better player communication. SO my Question to the board is this... WHY DO WE SEE THE SAME ISSUE YEAR AFTER YEAR.. -IS it the Coach ( RA or JVG) who is unable to convince his players to get YAO more touches. OR is he unable to recognize that YAO needs more shots .. OR is he stupid enough not to design plays to counter Fronting.. OR there are plays to counter fronting , but the role players just dont run it ??????? -IS it the players around Yao ( taking about past 7 years )who are not capable of passing the ball to Yao. ...OR they for some unknown reason forget about Yao in the second half.. Is there no other designed play to counter Fronting or the role players just don't remember to run it????? DO they forget to communicate when Yao faces weak side double Team.. or is it that Yao cannot hear them because of his hearing problem????????? -YAO himself is the problem... I don't think so. WILL THERE EVER BE A SOLUTION ???????????
After watching so many times of replay videos, I agree with you. PGs need to practice passing to Yao. We're lucky that we have the super weapon.
If you want practice, you'll have to wait a few more days. The past week or two, we've had VERY limited practice. And the days we do have off, we can't practice hard because we had a game the very day after. When is our next two or more day break? This 5 games in 7 days has been brutal for us physically.
this team needs a closer, I don't care how good yao is. He's been in this league long enough to figure out how to be a closer and he still has not. What can you say
Calm down. I see you are very angry. When you have a ballhog like AB on the team, what do you expect? He has no brain and no vision. Even when he passes, he throws the bounce pass, which is not a good choice for a big guy like YAO.
I have to agree with Solomon over at the chronicle about this. He basically said there should be a few key points when the Rockets play. 1. His name is Yao 2. Give him the ball 3. Give him the ball They seem to have #1 down (I think they know his name...), 2 and 3 are proving to be a little more difficult. I couldn't believe how few touches Yao had in this game, even towards the end, and how reluctant certain players (who will remain nameless) were to pass the ball to Yao earlier on in the game. Just sad.
and he like to throws the ball away when the shotclock is running off and pray ...sometimes the God heard him, so Yao hits a three, sometime God is bored, so he get blocked by the bottom of the board...
agreed, but sadly it would probably not happen. so just hope yao demands that houston would obtain plenty of benefits from yao
The main problem is Yao himself. All 3 of his coaches (Rudy/JVG/Adelman) realize he needs the ball. None of them are "stupid". There have been a number of PGs and none of them seem to be able to get the ball to Yao enough. Steve Francis was blasted left & right for not making Yao more effective. After him, St. Bob Sura, Mike James, Rafer, AB and others have all been blamed for Yao not getting enough shots. Seems like the only player that could get Yao the ball at will was Tracy McGrady, and that was because he himself drew double-teams and was a very tall & gifted passer. The only thing constant through the years is Yao himself. Despite being 7'6, he is not a very big target due to his lack of vertical & horizontal quickness. He still isn't very good at sealing defenders behind him and fronting Yao basically removes him from the offense. Because he's the slowest player in the league, after Yao gets the ball it's very easy to double-team him and force the ball out of his hands. Rag all you want about AB, but he isn't the main problem. It's Yao. His slowness and lack of hops is the reason he doesn't get more shots. I promise you it will be a problem for his entire career, no matter who the coach is, no matter who the PG is.
If i say that, i'm a hater, but its the truth and people dont want to admit it. The best thing yao can o this summer is work on his mid range game. That way, just like with duncan, he can get shots, touches and open the floor up.
Yao needs a perimeter superstar to play off of and should stay in the low post where he destroys people. Working on his mid-range game can't hurt though, but it's debatable whether that should be a significant part of his offense. IMO, it should not.
the first step towards getting Yao the ball is for Yao to make it very clear to his teammates that HE WANTS THE BALL AND THEY MUST GIVE IT TO HIM. simply waving your hands up in the air does not cut it.
reasons that Yao doesn't get enough shots: Yao doesn't seal off his defenders well. i'm 5'11 and i can seal my men off better than him. Guards turn it over a few times, the team get frustrated, then stop passing it to Yao and try to run the other plays. Yao doesn't yell when guards stop passing it to him. i'm a yao fan, but i say it's 70% on Yao.
One day you Yao apologist are going to admit that he himself is the problem Not the coach Not the point guard Not his teammates There comes a time when a big man in this league has to take it upon himself to be relevant. Im tired of people making excuses for a 7'6 300+ gargantuan. This is not biddy-ball.
