I did the same thing as with the Lakers game, creating a compilation of Yao Ming plays in which he received the ball in the low/mid/high post or the lane, or where he was (in my view) a strong option to receive the ball.

I uploaded this video to youtube, but I'm not happy with the video quality. I thought with the HD feature it would look better, but the quality is lower than I wanted it to be. Any tips on making it look better?

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EntgQlgcVyI&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EntgQlgcVyI&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

To me, on the whole it looks like the Rockets did a better job of responding to the double teams Yao received. Or course, it could just be that Charlotte isn't as good at it as LA. I noticed that in the one situation (clip #5) where Yao received the ball and Battier was on the weakside opposite corner, Shane moved in towards the basket instead of staying at the three point line. An adjustment by the Rockets? It ended up not making a difference though .. Yao still turned it over on the double team from the baseline. I liked the play we ran in clip #4, though. Clip #12 was nicely done as well (I think there's another thread creatied for that play).

    Thanks!

What device are you using to upload to PC? How much difference is there between the quality of the movie on PC and after uploading on Youtube?

I've got my cable box connected to a media center PC. I had it recorded on the DVR, so I just played it back and recorded it that way onto the PC. Then I used windows movie maker to cut and edit it and create a "best quality" WMV.

Well the Bobcats aren't even half as athletic as the Lakers. I think it's clear the Lakers are the most athletic team in the WEST, I'm sure the Hawks are more athletic. But with the IQ and the athletic ability the Lakers have. Yao cannot dominate them, especially with double teams swarming at them.

    Battier looked awkward on offense.

These post-play breakdowns are awesome. Hopefully someone will compile and analyze all the data in a spreadsheet so we can see what the team's offensive efficiency is when it posts up Yao.

The best way to defend Yao is to use meat defenders: Gasol, Walton, Okur, and any other white clumsy bigs....

Thanks for posting this. I had to miss last night's game so I needed a recap of some sort. Very interesting how the Bobcats played Yao by not really doubling until the 4th quarter. I can't believe I missed live Yao's 3-pointer off that high PnR! Plus, I came away from this clip being just as impressed with Scola as I was with Yao.

Scola was great, especially in the third quarter against Boris Diaw. Diaw is a pretty good defender, but Scola made him look helpless. I've had my doubts about Scola's post game translating to the NBA, but he really showed me something yesterday.

it's great that our coaching staff is changing up our offense when yao is double teamed. remember the JVG days when all 4 guys would just stand on the perimeter? good riddance.

Is it me or does it seem like it takes too long for the ball to get in to yao? The only guy who consistantly delivers the ball on time is battier. Lowry seems pretty decent at it as well.

Also, there are alot of clips in there where yao was in his range and should have went up with the shot. He needs to get more than 11 shots a game if were going to go anywhere in the playoffs. He should be more aggressive, and atleast try to draw some fouls to get to the line.

Overall I felt like Okafor played him pretty well. Yao made alot of tough catches and tough shots. Lets see how yao does against duncan and oberto tonight.

Yao has his sweet spots where he's most effective with the ball, and I think the Rockets try to move the ball from side to side to get him the ball in those areas. If they just try to go straight into him at the beginning of the possession, the offense is more likely to stagnate because he's less likely to get it in a spot where he can do something with the ball.

I feel that Yao should get the ball a bit more in the middle of the paint.

durvasa, i mentioned in your LA thread how i didnt think shane moving in would matter and i think clip#5 shows that like you stated. Its more about how confident the defender is about stripping the ball than who the rocket in the corner is. It's like when you were growing up going against a younger kid who couldn't quite dribble, you leave your man and go double because you're extremely confident about your chances of taking the ball away before he can gather himself and pass it. That's how wing defenders see Yao, as inferior when it comes to holding on to the ball and they are super confident about taking the ball away.

5 times Rox players failed to pass to Yao with good position and his man sealed briefly.
4 times Yao passed out with single coverage.(3 open shots missed, 1 made)
twice Yao dribbled too many times and got stolen.

Rockets players still need to get better at finding Yao.
Yao needs to shoot more when he's single coverd.
Yao sholdn't dribble more than two bounces going toward the middle. That's a high risk move at getting stolen or offensive fouls.

Great thread. Good job. I've given five stars to your previous clips. This one deserves six stars coz you do it game-by-game.
