Funny. If given the choice between a first round exit and not making the playoffs at all, most people would opt to miss the playoffs entirely. Reason being, the worse you perform in a season, the likelier it is that you will get a good pick in the draft.
ok. kobe still only took 2-3 less shots than both during his laker days anyways so it's not a much difference. kobe also shot a lower % in the playoffs (though not as much (44% to 45%). i think you're mistaken by that ft attempts. kobe is easily a better shooter than both and has a more dominant perimeter game.
He only missed the playoffs in his rookie season and it was only by 1 game in a strong western conference. The Rockets were a lottery team for years before Yao joined them. In his second season, they played the Lakers, who had 4 future hall-of-famers, in the first round but lost a tough one.
What was your point in posting their free throws per game? If you look at Kobe's playoff number post-Shaq, you'll see his ft attempts per game are very close to McGrady's.
to counter those who said tracy always jacks up jumpshots in the playoffs and never go to the line. that's all.
He wasn't just talking about the pass few years he said Kobe was better than Tracy ever was at going to the basket.
Not much of a counter if you think about it. You can still go to the line if you're hit while on the perimeter jacking up jump shots. You can't assume that free throws are always the result of attacking the basket.
I think he was more aggressive in the playoffs, but he also played more minutes and took more shots. What is more telling to me is his shooting percentage, or scoring efficiency, because Hakeem's went up in the playoffs, as did other great players....Tracy's did not...he just played longer and shot more.... DD
Well if I was a player I would rather go as far as I could. To me getting to the playoffs is better than not making it at all.
I never said Tracy wasn't worse than Yao, I was just saying that not making the playoffs is pretty bad too.
the current greats (kobe/lebron) do not increase their shooting % or efficiency in the playoffs. lebron's fg% drops WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY down in the playoffs. hakeem DID and he was one of the VERY FEW (that's why hakeem is so revered). michael jordan is another one. you're asking too much if you think every great player's shooting % and scoring efficiency goes up in the playoffs DD b/c it RARELY happens. even the great larry bird shot a worse % in the playoffs.

It reminds me of a few threads I regret in the D&D. BTW, I think tonight's game settles this one. I haven't exactly been preaching it, but I've said it several times. All that matters is how you do against the best team... not the other 30 some odd losers. When you play the best team, your offense WILL get shut down, and in steps McGrady or Kobe or Wade or Lebron or Paul. When McGrady went out, I thought the Rockets would be about as good as Aaron Brooks could play in the 4th quarter since he was our best player off the dribble. It turns out that I was completely wrong. We are only as good as Von Wafer can play in the 4th quarter minus the damage that Artest and Yao can inflict on the team. Artest has been better than I expected, but the guy has no first step. Anyone can get in front of him, and that pretty much means he is a 3 point shooting, offensive fouling bulldozer against Kobe Bryant (tonight was probably worse than average). Also Cabbage, I saw your thread on forcing the ball to Yao in the 4th quarter. I don't know the answer, but Yao's turnovers were a critical element to this loss.
we saw why he's not better than a healthy mcgrady. a healthy mcgrady would have bad shooting games, but he would instead rack up 8-9 assists and get a lot of rebounds. artest tries to impact the game on defense, but his offense was non existent tonight.
na...i saw 100% healthy tracy tlady get burn by kobe and then jack up 3s **** load of time...believe me artest did more good then bad than tlady already
tracy has had really bad shooting games v. the lakers, but he would rack up the assists though. v. the lakers 04-05 25ppg, 3rpg, 7apg, 40% 05-06 16ppg, 6rpg, 6apg, 33% 06-07 19ppg, 5rpg, 11apg, 30% 07-08 19ppg, 7rpg, 9apg, 39% so notice, he's been shooting bad v. the lakers. but he would still find ways to make an impact on the offensive end. if ron is not making his shots, he has ZERO impact on the offensive end b/c he doesn't have any playmaking skills.
