I just read this on realgm.com....

"You can already cross the Los Angeles Clippers off Duke forward Mike Dunleavy’s desired destination list, ESPN's David Aldridge reporting Sunday that if the Clippers receive one of the top picks in the June 26 NBA draft, Dunleavy will pull his name from consideration and return to Duke for his senior season.

The order of the draft lottery will be determined May 19. Dunleavy has until June 19 to withdraw from the draft."

Players like Dunleavy piss me off because it is a great honor to be drafted and just ALONE to be able to play in the NBA...and now when mere college players start telling teams that they dont like them before the draft so the team is forced to pass on the players they may covet...Francis did this also int he '99 Draft when he forced his way out of Vancouver. NBA MUST find a way to end this PICKING of teams by college players!!

This bothers me as Rockets I think will heavily covet Dunleavy if they land a top 7 pick. But, what if the Clippers luckily get a higher pick in the lotter drawing on Sunday?? Thanks to them we miss out on the chance of getting a cornerstone franchise player.

Another dilemma that might happen is that the Rocks land the 5th pick...and Dunleavy declares he will not enter the draft because he does not want to play in Houston like he said with the Clippers. This may cause problems with other draftees and free-agents who may see Houston, though were getting a new arena, as an unattractive place to play.

    What do you guys think??

Screw that, he should do what is best for himself. He has no obligation to the NBA.

If he wants to go back to Duke, more power to him.

Also, if you don't like this, what did you think when Francis did it?

    Clippers??

Why Would they Want Dunleavy? Their Swingman 2,3 Rotation (dunleavy's probable spots) are full with Darius Miles, Corey Maggette, Quentin Richardson and Lamar Odom

Who I all think have the Athleticism to school Dunleavy Jr.

I think Dunleavy is one guy who, if he declares, will see his stock drop immensely before the draft.

Obviously as a Rocket fan I was happy...but if you were ANY of the other 29 teams especially Vancouver..you MUST have been dissappointed w/ the unprofessional behavior Francis showed ESPECIALLY with the BIG FROWN he had when he went up to the podium to accept his Vancouver hat....This moment is supposed to be a kid's greatest accomplishment in his life!!

Also, if for say Rocks land the 1st pick and select Yao, and he forces himself to be traded to lets say NY....TRUST ME...we would be feelin like Vancouver!!

All im saying is that ITS NOT RIGHT for college KIDS to be able to control their destiny when they have done absolutely nothing int yet in their NBA careers to have such a power.

So being an NBA player should allow them to do things normal people shouldn't?

So you think these "kids" don't know what's best for them and what they can and cannot do within the rules?

Dunleavy has every right to pull his name out of the draft - it was his choice to test the draft waters and his choice to pull back his name from the pool if he doesn't like what he sees. It is no different than a borderline 1st rounder going back to school - they survey the field and if they don't like what they see and hear, they can go back to school.

    Sheesh.

That said, the Clippers have no need for Dunleavy; and with the talent there - even if they did draft him, I don't see why he wouldn't want to play there.

    Ok....

Lemme ask you a question....Why do teams end up in the lottery??

Well its an obvious answer...because they suck

if teams are not allowed to pick certain players they feel they will improve them...whats the point of the lottery??...Teams would NEVER leave the lottery if players they covet reject them!!

Trust me if the Rocks land the 1st pick and Ming says he would rather retire or go back to China if Rocks picked him...you would have a totally different view point

And it's not the same with Francis and the Grizzlies?

The rules say that Dunleavy has the chance to withdraw from the draft pool assuming he does not break the rules governing that. His situation would involve him returning to school well before the draft. That's nothing like what you are talking about.

If he wanted to go back to school, more power to him. More kids should follow that path anyway. And, whether he likes the team that drafts him in 2003 or not, he'd have to play for them or risk another situation like with Francis...something I don't think he would do.

Im not knocking the players...they should be allowed to do WHATEVER the NBA allowes them

I am KNOCKING the NBA and its rules...players like Francis who declare for the draft and sign on w/ an agent cannot dictate who or where he should be selected...or force himself from being traded away from a team or a place he does not want to play in like Vancouver...

But the NBA should have a restriction on the draftees as they should have NO say on where and who they are drafted by other than their performances as colligated athletes

If this was the NFL and a prospect comes out before the draft and says he will not lets say play for the New York Giants...I will GUARANTEE that this player no matter HOW GOOD HE IS will drop ATLEAST to the 4th round because unlike the NBA, NFL scouts not only look for talent but also ATTITUDE!!

I hate it that Francis did
    I hate that kobe did

I hate it. . . . mainly because it skews the competitiveness
of the nba. . . . if u live in a armpit town with a team
    you cannot draw good talent.
I mean it is almost the equivalent of the yankees being able to buy the league championships

The LAs can get bigger talent with less money
hell they can have talented rookies leverage their way to LA

So how does a milwaukee or a Minnesota compete
when players say . . HEY Trade me to LA or i goto school
if they draft them they waste a pick if not .. . they don't get the
best available. . . .So the LAs of the world get better talent at
29 than other teams get at 16

or they get a Mitch Richmond for league minimun
but he would charge Minnesota MAX to come. . .

    Also . . .BE A MAN
make a decision and go . . .stop this backsliding ****
the worse thing to happen was the
OH YOU CAN COME BACK IF YOU DON'T HAVE AN AGENT

I beleive it should be IN OR OUT
    no inbetween . . . .

like i said. . it all sucks

I don't recall John Elway dropping to the 4th round.

Randy Moss had/has an attitude problem (although he never said "I won't play for Team X"). He only dropped to the middle of the first round.

The Dunleavy/Clipps scenario is not very realistic. The Clipps #8 is actually Atlanta's and is top 3 protected (reverts to Hawks if in the top 3). The Clipps leaping from 12 into the top 3 is remote.
