    -----------------------------------------------

I made that myself, but I am not too tech savy so I thought maybe some Clutchfans can help me make a better one if the above is not good enough.

    1. Go to this link: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/...-category-id=71B5861F7B7A4D2D8E6D5ABC43C80769

    2. Choose ThinkPad R400 (Elite Thinkpad 400 is a bit too much for my budget).

    3. Help me make a laptop. I am going to be using it for my school work, e-mail, finals, and web surfing. Only things I prefer are webcam and bluetooth. I need help b/c I am not sure about memory and other stuff. I don't need a big harddrive so the default one is fine.

    4. Apply this coupon: USPSTPATSSALE

I am looking to keep it around $700. Lower is better, but a little over is still fine. I do not want to go over $800.

    Thanks.

The specs that you posted aren't to bad for what your looking to do but it seems a little pricey to me. I wouldn't pay no more then $550 for something like that but don't take my word I'm no expert. HP normally has some decent deals. You should check it out, I haven't had a problem with my HP but then again I did take remove vista so that might of helped my case. Also I am not to familiar with that brand, Lenovo.

I have looked into HP, but after my Compaq, I am very hestitant to purchase compaq/hp laptops.

The laptop has been wonderful (other than its size), but the parts are just too ****ty and I have spent too much money fixing just one part over and over with the company refusing to recall it. So I am still hestitant to throw my money at Hp products.

How about this Dell Inspiron Mini 12" for $519? Savings = $20.

Is 12" screen pretty big? Protability is high on my list, but I am going to be taking finals that are 3 1/2-4 hrs long so I want a screen that is a good size also.

I hate to tell you this, but outside of a few pieces all the parts in laptops are used by all the manufacturers. It's not like they make their own hard drives, video cards, memory, etc. (with verrrrry few exceptions). And a 12" screen is on the small end.

Go to a store and look at what a 12", 14", 15", etc. look and feel like. You'll get an idea.

Both of those are too wimpy to run Vista well.

I would definitely say Lenovo is a good path to take. However, you might be able to get a better price if you buy it through the contractor page.

    1: Go to lenovo.com/cpp
    2: Enter passcode: familyandfriends
3: Configure your computer and use the St. Patrick's coupon.

The difference on the CPP website is an even lower base price. It's always available, you just have to wait for the coupon sales to coincide and you can pick up a pretty good deal. I'm not sure whether the R series qualifies, but I would recommend the T series anyway. Very reliable at a decent price.

    Just for comparison

R400 integrated starts at 749 on normal website, while on CPP starts at 636.65, both precoupon.

    Thanks for the advise.

Since it appears that you know a bit about Lenovos, what Lenovo series do you think would be good for me?

I logged in, and there is the SL, R, T, X, X Series Tablets, and W.

Like I mentioned in my previous post, I will be using this mostly for e-mail, web surfing, webchat w/ my family back in LA, taking notes in class, and taking my finals.

    Thanks

Thats pretty cool. The new total from the CPP site comes to:

    Estimated total: $702.27*
    Total savings $452.73

Damn laptop hunting is a hassle. I was going to get a used Macbook, but my parents encouraged me to just go for a new laptop. This seems like a good deal.

I just need to figure out what series is good for me and what are the important specs I should focus on (i.e. ram?)
