im glad they won tonite...especially because i live here in colorado: moved from home (Houston) 2 years ago...and i hate the nuggets. with a passion. i hate their whiny fans and their braindead commentators (you guys had to deal with them tonite: i have to hear those jokers over and over again. The color guy just said on the after-game show that Denver is still an obviously better team than Houston). So congrats on this win! It buys me some bragging rights for a week or so...so DOUBLE congrats!

    But...

Im really angry. i think this was the first game where there was no denyin g that Deke shouldve seen some minutes. I think especially after Yao fouled out, even putting Deke in on defensive possesions was elementary, considering the fact that Scola was falling apart before our very eyes. But i dont think Yao even fouls out if Deke is brought in during the 3rd (at the very least when we were up by 16-19 points) and the early 4th.

I think we are at the point where Adelman needs to play him or the organization needs to tell us why he isn't being plaqyed. tell us something! dont insult our basketball IQ as we watch the rox defensively fall apart game after game, 4th qtr. after 4th qtr. while a former defensive player of the year (albeit older) sits on the bench and watches...only expending energy and effort to jump up and cheer from the sidelines.

I dont want a cheerleader-Deke: i prefer that power dancer with the long jet black hair.

PLAY HIM OR TELL US WHY NOT.

i was just about to ask why adelman didnt put deke in, it was the perfect situation because they scores the rest of their points driving to the basket

When Scola went out I thought there was no choice but to get him in. I don't understand it either. Why didn't we just let him go to Boston. At least there he would be getting minutes most likely.

Part of me feels they want him to be rested for the postseason, but if that is the case, he should start getting minutes now to be ready. I also thought maybe he wasn't in shape yet, but its been months now.

I just don't get it and don't understand how him playing would hurt us.

Does Deke dive on the floor and save a loose ball while face planting on the floor?...Didn't think so.

The Rox are playing great ball right now and get one of the biggest road wins of the year and you complain about Deke not playing? Adelman is our coach for a reason. Let him do his job and you do yours----cheer the Rockets no matter who is in there. GEEZ!!! Go Rockets!!!

    i see your point.
    im happy they won.
im just saying...its gonna bite us later.
    in the playoffs...watch.
tonite demonstrated what we already know: yao goes out and this team has NO interior shot blocking or basket defense. Were going to need it against teams like utah or L.A. in long hard series'. And Deke wont be ready.
    No in-game conditioning or NOTHING.

You should just stop here and enjoy the victory!

This has been discussed to death. Deke is more than earning his paycheck for many reasons discussed to death (Gives Yao someone to practice against, teaches Yao defense, is a stabilizing force in the locker room, provides vet leadership, is an insurance policy in case Yao goes down again, head cheerleader on the bench, etc.) Just enjoy the feeling man. We won and have been winning. Give Adelman some props.

    Streets, you may be right.
If that IS the case, then Adelman or someone needs to just say that. Say that THIS is why we brought him here...not necessarily to PLAY.

Because, IMO, what theyre doing is insulting to Deke. Its awkward...even if they know what theyre doing and why, they should realize that the rest of us dont...and some of us question. EVen other commentators when the rox are on the road question it. In the game against Memphis, CLYDE questioned why Deke was getting minutes, even saying, 'Perhaps this is a time to give Deke some minutes'.
Thats all im saying. Its insulting to Deke to have him suit up and basically play the scrubs-role of 'cheerleader'.

You don't think Deke knew what he was brought in here for, even if Adelman hasn't announced it to the world (including opposing teams)?

You think Deke- the man who looks happiest on the bench jumping up and down like an 8-year-old on Christmas- feels slighted or insulted in the least bit?

    Again... enjoy the win.

Btw, I'm as big of a fan of Deke's as anyone, but instead of being mad, just understand that he is playing an integral role on this very special Rockets team.

pitiful game, not proud of this win at all, im sick of these leads disappearing when it matters, and our offense becoming so predictable, i dont like giving it to scola when yao is out, because they double him and they know EXACTLY what hes going to do every time...all they had to do was pull the chair, and von...cmon this is why he hasnt stayed on any rosters, hes hot, then ICE COLD, and he takes ridiculous shots when he is off, brooks....so frustrating, stop jacking things up...I WISH MCGRADY WAS HERE, never was i afraid at the end of the game, he could make a shot SOMEHOW, but with this squad i know exactly what move each player will do, i literally can call out what artest, yao, scola, battier, wafer, and brooks will do 90 percent of the time

Streets, are you honestly saying that tonite, against the Nuggets, you dont feel that Deke should have seen some time?

As far as being glad about the win...dude, i am. Im just VanGundian in my joy, i guess: i can find SOMETHING we need to improve on. :)
Im just not content with these reg. season wins anymore...even the big games. Heck, we won 22 in a row last year!
i want PLAYOFF success...and building for playoff wins starts HERE, not then.
And against that gang of giants called the Lakers...or those Mormon God-Thugs in Utah...we're going to need Deke...and I mean more than just his locker-room guru activities.

Were going to need those elbows and that wagging finger.

but im happy! IM HAPPY! see ---> :D

First yes we are winning. Thats is awesome.

It should be noted though, that playing Deke does not equate to losing (i.e. 22 games in a row).

Is it possible to not look so short sighted and think big picture? Playing Deke gives us a rest for Yao without giving up size, defense and rebounding. Even if its for ten minutes every couple of games.

Don't know if anyone caught it, but Yao fouled out. Scola did too.

Its funny that a lot of the same posters saying everything is grand would be crying the sky was falling if we blew this one, as we almost did.

Honestly, during the game I never thought "where is Deke" or "they should put Deke in" and I can't say I wish they put him in, because in retrospect "Superman Save" Hayes was the right call, and we won.

However, I think another reason why Deke is only getting garbage minutes is because Adelman is trying to keep his rotation to a tight 8-man set (Yao, Scola, Artest, Battier, Brooks, Landry, Lowry, Wafer) with Hayes and Barry getting situational minutes based on specialty (defense/shooting). After all of the T-Mac drama and inconsistencies in the line-up I think Adelman is just trying to get a group to gel and is building his playoff rotation.

Now I agree that Deke could be very helpful against an LA or San Antonio in the playoffs (I don't know about Utah since they kill Yao on the High PnR, I don't know what they'd do to Deke), but I really don't know as I'm not the coach. I don't see Deke everyday in practice.

    Streets-

I understand what you're saying about developing a regular rotation and get the group to gel. You also have to look at though that there are some matchups where the most logical choice seems to be Deke. Gelling shouldn't be a huge concern either, all the guys love playing with Deke. How many times last year did his play inspire the guys, they all said as much in damn near every postgame interview when Yao went out.

he is slower than yao and yao gets targeted and abused on pick and roll defense.

if deke ever plays for us the only play the opponent would run would be a high pick and roll bringing deke away from the basket where he can't block anything, and letting some guard wiz right by him.

at this point in his career. he's here for locker room leadership. he's and unofficial player/coach.

don't expect to see him on the court anytime soon. in fact, i'd wager that deke enjoys that role much more than having to ice his 42 year old knees during every timeout.
