I LOVE how he pointed out the difference between "taking a charge" and "flopping." It's the main reason why guys like Shane Battier are so respected around the league. Shane almost never MAKES UP THE CONTACT. He gets hit. Hard. And he falls down because he has position on the court, and takes the full brunt of the hit. He is quick enough to get to the spot before the offensive player is because he anticipates the move. That's skillful, and I respect guys who do that. Grant Hill was one of the best at it, and it's no coincidence that he's a fellow Dukie. Coach K has been saying for YEARS that the NBA has NEVER known how to call a charge, so he exploits it. Guys like Kirilenko, Okur, Varejao, Ginobili take it too far.....they ACT like they have been hit, when in reality, NO CONTACT WAS MADE. That's a flop....not what Battier does. It's a pathetic way of playing defense, and what's even more aggravating is that most of the guys that do it are definitely talented enough to play defense legitimately....they just don't.

There's also the gray area with Battier though. He's not always in charge position and the driver will not always hit him square. There are times when the driver sees Shane set up and jump to the side of Shane. If it's all miss, Shane will not flop, and I respect him for that. But if there's off square contact (like shoulder contact), Shane will go down. Now the refs generally call that a block foul, but because it's Shane, he will get more benefit than the average NBA baller trying to draw that.

Point is, Shane will go down with contact when he's trying to draw the charge. Sometimes, it's perfect position and full body throttle to the chest contact that will take anyone down. Other times it's slightly late, out-of-position, shoulder contact, and really, Shane can actually stay standing in those cases...but he's going down.

it's not whether or not the defensive player dropped to the floor. It's the intent of the offensive player whether his motion is natural to get into the basket or shoot... etc.

Flopping and the adjusted NBA rules are making room for guards and slowly diminishing any true center talent coming into the NBA these days.

When taking a charge, your suppose to fall. Not flop by throwing you head back like you just got shot, but fall under control to protect both yourself and the opposing player.

When I see Louis Amundsen fall back after Aaron Brooks runs into him, I know damn well thats a flop. Aaron Brooks could run into a feather at full speed and probably bounce off it.

I wonder if the Baron flop was him telling Okur "How does it feel?", but it fit more if he did it to AK-47.

That's the whole problem. If the offensive players barrels into you, it is a charge whether you fall or not. When Ginobili throws himself into Yao, that's a charge but because Yao doesn't fall down, it is called a block.

Madsen made a great point. Most NBA players are strong and have great balance. They will rarely fall when run into if they didn't want to.
