Popab*tch simply sucks He fired a real coach as soon as he got a real team now he is showing his flaws his substitutions are WACK!! Rocket River
As much as I hate Pop, and the Spurs, he is still one of the best coaches in the league. However, I question why Terry Porter was in the game.
This is a sad, sad statement. I remember when Doug Moe used to be one of the better coaches in the league...and Frank Layden...and Bill Fitch...
boomboom-Not sure if you're saying if you disagree or agree. Or if you're saying how bad NBA coaches are these days. I think the NBA coaches are horrible these days...
You know, when SA was missing all of those shots in the 4th quarter, the thought jokingly came into my head -- "Damn, look at that great coaching by Phil Jackass!" Same thing when Bryant was hitting all those shots at the end -- "Wow, can you believe the coaching that is going on over there on the LA sideline?" I mean Phil was really doing an unbelievable job. I'd say it's all coaching that has LA up 3-1 in the series.
i did not say coaching was the only reason but some of his personell decisions would have had people crucifying ruddy Rocket River
I'm not a big fan of Pop at all, but I'll give him limited acknowledgement. My statement was a little bit tongue-in-cheek and more a jab at how bad the coaching is in the NBA these days. I think Doug Moe and Frank Layden were pretty good coaches, but would probably have a hard time coaching today's players. Look at Larry Brown and AI...I think Brown is a pretty decent coach, but he looks like a jackass when AI consistently shows him up in the press, refuses to follow team rules and consistently refuses to run an set play that was designed (granted...someone who is as good as AI, you want to give them the ball and let them create). Hell...I probably could coach the Bulls for a few seasons and win a few dozen games.
The old school coaches, would not fit in with the current NBA. A prime example is Brown vs Iverson. The main reason for my thinking highly of Pop, is that 1. he gets his team to play defense. And 2. other than Tim Duncan, his team has very little talent. To come anywhere close to winning 60 games is quite a feat. There aren't many coaches in the NBA who command the respect from his players to work their butt off on defense, ahem Rudy, but Pop is able to do it. X's and O's aren't really a big part of the game, except for the last shots, after a timeout, where plays are drawn up. During the game, most of the plays are improvisational.
