Yeah. I was also pleased to see a rebuttal of sorts to Friedman's dogma.

This part is amazing to me, it shatters the myths associated with home ownership

It's an interesting article, but I dispute one of their theses:

We can't have fewer manufacturing jobs and ever see the other side of the crisis. The real root cause behind the depression is that we have consumed more than we make for decades, enabled by cheap credit. With a lower dependence on credit and greater savings rate, we will have the capital to rebuild manufacturing. It may not be GM and Chrysler, but we will make something.

the lack of manufacturing jobs has more to do with technology than anything else.

Manufacturing jobs is generally what creates exports. It doesn't matter what we do, if we do not export and we get over the current problem, we will only be patching the problem, not fixing it. Putting the dollar in a washing machine will not fix our problems.

Something else we can do is work on bring more tourism into the US. Also, we need more US based companies overseas which provide services and are taxed by the US.
