Where do you guys buy your dress shirts? I'm thinking about hitting up Brooks Brothers but would like to get some opinions before I do so.
I usually buy mine from Peter Raney custom tailors. http://www.peterraney.com/ You can get a really good deal from them on shirts that are custom tailored for you. I have been buying shirts from them since 1995 and haven't had a bad one yet. My Dad has been buying shirts from them since the 1980s. Nice people and a couple of weeks on the turnaround time, delivered right to your door.
Are you buying shirts for work? If so, what industry? Brooks Bros. is fine, but expensive. Most people I know that are in that market look for sales at Jos. A. Banks instead, but that's the high-end, lawyers and business exec market. For normal folks, just shop around. If you don't do a lot of dry cleaning already, I suggest you explore the wrinkle-free options
Dillards is where it's at, but I just buy dress shirts for a few occasions a year. Nothing quite for a job or anything like that.
I am a lawyer, but not a high roller. I usually get suits from Jos A. Bank. When on sale, the Business Express suit separates can net you a nice suit for about $300.00.
These are for work. I normally get my dress shirts (during sales only) from Express, Banana Republic, and Kenneth Cole. Thanks for the suggestions.
I like Brooks Brothers a lot, but make sure you get them tailored. In my opinion, Brooks Brothers doesn't have the best cut (too big). Brooks is expensive, but I do love the non-irons. If you're a slimmer guy, BR probably would be a better cut.
oh, if they're for work, and you're going to buy a lot, i suggest hitting up the outlet malls. i'm a big fan of geoffrey beane outlet shopping.
For really nice shirts, I would go to Off Fifth (saks outlet). I don't like BR because they don't have fitted collars.
You can get great deals on dress shirts at Marshalls and TJ Maxx. I love Macy's Mens and Dillards as well.
if they are for work I recommend outlet malls as well if you are buying in bulk for day to day work. Then get some nice ones for days for client meetings, proposals etc.
For everyday work, I go with the Brooks Brothers Non-Iron Slim Fit shirts. They're not all baggy like their Traditional fit shirts, and you can just wash them, throw them in the dryer, and hang them when they're done... no wrinkles. They do tend to fray a while after repeated washings/dryings... but you do save quite a bit on dry cleaning, so it all evens out. I have some nicer custom tailored shirts that I'll wear on special occasions, but my favorite off-the-rack shirts are by Luigi Borelli.
