I hadn't read the book before seeing it (probably will sometime this week), but I still found the movie entertaining and not too difficult to follow. I felt it dragged a bit in parts (the beginning, the Manhattan/Silk Spectre/Mars stuff), but overall the pacing was fine. I definitely want to see it again after a while, and see how it holds up upon a second viewing. I thought this was miles better than 300 (was I the only one rooting for the Spartans to get slaughtered?), but I'm not sure if I liked it more than V for Vendetta. Do any of the Watchmen gurus here know why Rorschach's (sp?) mask kept changing? I got the ink blot stuff, but I kept wondering how the mask kept doing that...thought they might have explained that in the book.
you're not the first person to suggest this movie, i guess i'll have to check it out. 21 grams is another one that requires you pay attention to try and figure out (in the mold of momento, and mulholland drive)
Spoiler The material is from a womans dress. It was made for her, she didn't like it, and threw it away. Young Kovacs thought it was beautiful. So many good little things in the book... Like Hollis Mason being murdered...
What I loved about 300 was the great battle scenes, blood, gore, etc. This movie had a similar amount of plot without nearly as many fighting scenes. I was expecting a lot of fighting but there actually wasn;t much for a 3 hour movie.
To expand on that. When Rorschach was 16, he left his orphanage and began working as an unskilled worker in the garment industry. Quote from book: That quote kind of shows how Rorschach sees things in black and white, good and evil, with no gray areas. Anyway, he took the fabric and experimented with it but then put it away when he became bored with it. Two years later he read in the paper that the woman who ordered the dress was raped and murdered outside her apartment building while her neighbors watched and did nothing.
Having offspring doesn't necessarily mean he's straight, but he has six kids. One of them was in both 300 and Watchmen. Young Leonidas and young Rorschach is one of his kids.
man, you have no idea... from the angels & demons preview to the end of the movie, we were freaking out. at the same time the audience didn't have a clue. the world is screwed lol.
I got the original comics shortly after they came out. Thought it was awesome! Haven't read it in a long time so the book was not fresh in my mind. Went ans saw the movie this morning. Thought it was very good. Seemed they were faithful to the book. Can't wait for the directors cut. I head Snyder had trouble getting it under 3 hours.
Outside in the cold distance, a wild cat did growl, two riders were approaching and the wind began to howl. Sounds perfect to me....
Haven't seen the flick yet (looking forward to it), but that's such a great song. Was it Dylan singing it, or Jimi Hendrix? I've seen them both perform it live (Hendrix many years ago and more times than I've seen Dylan do it). Any film that ends with that song can't be too bad!
All those "out of place" songs are actually in the graphic novel. Moore quoted each song at the end of each chapter.
Yep. Did you even see the scene in the movie? That basically describes it perfectly. Although that's one of the best songs ever, making into a rap song even if TI did it, would completely suck.
It's an awesome song and i would hate it if it were made into a rap song, but when you're watching the movie, most wont be listening to the lyrics, they are watching the screen and the music is in the back of their head. Well, either way, i was thinking it didn't sound right with the scene(apart from the lyrics) and when i walked out, my friend pointed it out b4 i could so i know im not alone. We both didnt read the graphic novel
its the hendrix version, the movie does open with a dylan song though. i thought the music fit pretty well throughout, though i too chuckled at the hallelujah song.
