It feels wierd to watch the Lakers/Spurs game and not hear Bill Walton jock Kobe/Shaq all day long. Actually, some of the things he has to say make sense (like attacking Shaq, how Duncan could get his hook off to the left anytime...ala McHale and Dream...how more offensive fouls need to be called on LA, etc...) Kinda reminds me of when he was on 610 a few weeks ago and said he didn't deserve to be NBA Top 50.
Yea the thing i hate on NBC is that 2 commentators not sure which ones, they just argue back and forth and criticize one another, unless thats another channel......
Bill Walton is the only commentator that mentions Hakeem and uses him as an example when not talking about the Rockets or Raptors. Good on him!
Walton does know what hes talking about, but i am not sure if hes one of the 2 commentators i hear argue or not.
I actually like Walton now. Actually, I hated him growing up, until i realized the utmost respect and admiration he had and always spoke of for Hakeem. Now, I still think he's incredibly entertaining. However, that married-couple bickering he does with snapper every game is ridiculous. They seem to live for getting a rise out of each other during the games, and refute each others points. It gets old QUICK....
Walton has always been among the more astute broadcasters in the business. He's very much like Calvin with his instant recognition of strategies and how to counter them. It's just when he whips out the Pom-Poms, and starts name-dropping and salivating over every HOFer he's ever played with or against (is he Kareem's PR manager or something?!), that's when he becomes totally nauseating. But no one's perfect, I guess.
You are right on the money. Most people lock into to Calvin's humor easily. Walton's humor is much less obvious. Walton says many things tongue-in-cheek for effect and doesn't really mean them. He is the Clipps regular season commentator and those of you with League Pass have heard him rant superlatives about Keith Kloss ("Kloss' mere presence in the game has totally altered the oppostions offensive scheme") or Kandi-man ("After watching that offensive display, how can you not put this man on the All Star team?"). Just don't talk Walton literally, and you will really learn to enjoy him. I find PJ much more tolerable when he's not doing Spurs games with Joel Meyers.
I know what will cure that, when he is shown on the T.V. mute it. Now only do this if there are no women and children in the room. One of my girls still has nightmares about this. just look at the little mouse talk. his teeth are nasty, nasty. then unmute it and listen to the guy yell at you, as Walton would say, hes terrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiblllllllleeeeeeeeee. I get offended when I watch him, I keep thinking he is yelling at me.
