This was probably posted, if not then cool, but here is an interesting comment from Hollinger. ................................................................................................... Tony (San Antonio): I would love it if the Rockets beat the Jazz in the first round without Tracy, would you? John Hollinger: That would be another great irony, yes, and it's not unreasonable to think it might happen ................................................................................................ dana (berkeley, ca): are there any data that support the rockets being a better team without tracy mcgrady? John Hollinger: This year, the Rockets have been much better without him. Every year prior to this one, the data showed the exact opposite. Which makes total sense -- prior to this year McGrady was a heck of a player, and it's possible he'll be one again. .................................................................................................. Seems, like he is buying into the Rockets and he actually knows what he is talking about. Once again lock if posted before.
Hollinger's always been pro-Rockets. ALWAYS lol. only time he shut his mouth was when we failed. but when we are doing good, especially when we probably shouldn't, like now, he's supportive. it's hard to defend them when they fail, and you build them up so high right before their failure. any person will just say you're making excuses, even though, injuries obviously were not an excuse here, because they weren't small injuries. i mean, first round of last years playoffs without our center the whole time, and then 2 games without our point guard? not an excuse. just an effed up situation
Hollinger's opinion is worthless. For the last 3 seasons, he says the Rockets will make it past the first round and make some noise. He's 0 for 3 so far. His statistics are only good for the regular season. They go right out the door, when playoffs start.
Not a fan of John Hollinger, as a matter of fact I think he's a tool. All he does is talk about numbers anyways. Not to mention he compared Tim Duncan to the Dream at Duncan's age.
Really, did he actually think we were going to beat Utah last year. If I remember right he didnt. Nice try though, and if you want to think back to the Dallas series. Only one ESPN expert or basketball analyst for that matter thought the Rox would advance, and that was Tim Legler. Why do you make things up?
He says in terms of similarities though.... Saying Duncan playing like The Dream, would be like Yao playing like Shaq.
****ing hell, i want post editing lol. as i was saying. nothing quite new and surprising about hollinger's remarks. although if hollinger believes in us, the prophecy will fulfill itself this year.
Hollinger's looking fairly prescient with his early season projection of 1. Utah 2. LA 3. Houston He just couldn't predict that a.) Utah would pull a Shaq and rest its players half the season on phantom injuries, and b.) Tracy McGrady in addition to his shoulder and knee injuries also decided to have a sex change.
Except Duncan and Dream are both top 15 players of all time, while Yao may not even be top 100. So, no, it's not like that.
A few years ago, he was the one guy saying the Spurs were the best team because of their league leading point differential. I remember fans giving him hell for that, because you had Dallas with far more wins (67 compared to 58). Lo and behold, Dallas gets eliminated in the first round, and San Antonio goes on to win the championship.
Again, I am not talking about who is better... Hollinger said Duncan's game resembles to The Dream. Which again is dumb. It's just like saying Yao Ming's game is similar to David Robinson's
Here are his laughable similarities comparisons. Tim Duncan http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/play...spn.go.com/nba/players/hollinger?playerId=215 Most similar at age: Hakeem Olajuwon Vince Carter http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/play...spn.go.com/nba/players/hollinger?playerId=136 Most similar at age: Scottie Pippen Dwight Howard http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/play...pn.go.com/nba/players/hollinger?playerId=2384 Most similar at age: Amare Stoudemire Amare Stoudemire http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/play...pn.go.com/nba/players/hollinger?playerId=1727 Most similar at age: Alonzo Mourning
What exactly did he say? What was the quote? There is no player who plays exactly like Olajuwon did. But with Duncan we're still talking about a guy who can dominate in the post and draw double teams, as well as face up and hit the midrange jumper or beat guys off the dribble. A guy who possesses expert foot work, and has the low post game down to science. A guy who anchors the best defensive teams of the past decade. No one is quite like Hakeem, but if you had to choose one player who does similar things for his team, it's Duncan. Everyone knows that.
I don't want ot face them. Primarily because yao just doesn't play well vs boozer. Without boozer, i'd be comfortable. But i still fear the flops.
It's it does in some ways. The both have a killer bank shot and a myriad of lowpost moves, dreams odviously quicker, a better defender and shot blocker.
