A lone gunman on the A&M campus will be badly outnumbered.

Also, was anyone surprised that the A&M alert code is Maroon?

I mean, "Code Maroon" sounds like the name of a cheer or stadium there... you'd think they'd give it a more distinguishable name

Apparently yes, it was a hoax : http://www.theeagle.com/local/Report-of-gunman-on-A-M-campus-was-a-hoax

Report of gunman on campus was a hoax

Texas A&M officials canceled an emergency warning sent out to students and faculty Friday afternoon, saying to avoid the H.R. "Bum" Bright Building on campus because a man reportedly was walking around with a gun.
University officials later confirmed that it was a prank called in to authorities.

Police searching the area urged everyone to seek shelter and did so through A&M's emergency notification program — Code Maroon — which went out at 5:26 p.m.

A&M officials said that the call reportedly was made from a campus emergency telephone in the area between the Bright Building and the Chemistry Building. University police reported that the scene was safe and secure at about 6:10 p.m.

Code Maroon allows the university to communicate information in an emergency to students. It can be done by text message, e-mail, on KAMU-FM radio, the campus TV system and the emergency broadcast system radios.

Bright, also known as the computer science building, is near Spence Street and is adjacent to the Richardson Petroleum Building, Langford Architecture Center, Chemistry Building and Scoates Hall.

The incident was unfolding as much of Aggieland's attention Friday was focused on two students shot to death in a south College Station home. For more information, go to www.theeagle.com/local/2-Aggies-shot-to-death-at-CS-home

How many CT's and Farmers do you think spend their whole school day fantasizing about running to the truck, getting the thirty-aught-six and defending campus.

    It's their collective wet dream.

They'd like to shoot people who just walk on the grass.

    Good hoax!

That's funny because in all of my days at A&M, I never saw a single gun (other than the Ross Volunteers). It never fails to surprise me how wrong stereotypes can be.

    uh not really, but

When I was there, 76-80 there was a pretty strong culture of trucks, huntin' and the military. And CT's were jumping students for walking on the Memorial grass (post Viet Nam frustration?)

Don't tell me it's all yuppified frat boys now. It's a gadam Ag school.

Or that if you stay around Cougar High after dark, some thug is going to break into your car or rob you at gunpoint. Good thing all stereotypes are completely made up.

Honestly. Even from lets say 99, its completely different. I mean ya, they are still gign sheeps and what have you but ever since they hired that general of diversity position (its not really called general) its somewhat different.

Now trucks... Thats an all together State of Texas issue.

I think post scripts like Tech, Polytech or A&M are basically obsolete with alot of these older or larger universities. Outside of the rural Midwest, the job market has evolved to point that the majority of jobs and students are presumably not in these majors. I figure it's mostly Business, Engineering and Comp Sci/MIS?

On a related note, my friend goes to UPenn, and he told me that there was some guy running around campus at night robbing girls with.... a screwdriver. No joke.
